Feds Investigate Airplane Brawl

excerpt:

The FBI is looking into a bizarre and frightening incident aboard a commercial jet heading from Houston to Omaha last Friday involving an unstable passenger. It began with a middle-aged man leaving the plane's lavatory covered in his own feces.

Passenger quote: "I hear all of this ruckus and this yelling...and the poor flight attendant is on his back and the guy is like punching him...There were two male passengers behind me that got up and kind of got the guy off of him. The poor steward, he's got a black eye, his eye's swelling. I felt so sorry for him."

The injured attendant, with help from the passengers, got the unruly passenger buckled in and calmed down for landing at Eppley Airfield.

There's a video within the story as well.

It's an entirely different kind of flying; all together.

It was Continental Expressjet; an ERJ from IAH.

I heard the two cops who met the flight talking about the absurdity of the whole situation on the employee bus the night it happened. Funny to find the story here on A.net now.

The cops said when they got his luggage and opened it up, all of his clothes were covered in feces, too. This guy did NOT need to be flying unsupervised!

There is an explanation for everything, just ask the Gov. of Illinois...

Maybe he fell in the toliet during some bad turbulence...

He probably did that so the TSA wouldn't steal any of his clothes, not a bad idea...

Curious that no one at the baggage check-in smelled anything.  vomit   knockout  Were the bags air-tight or the staff just pretended not to notice (in deference)?  Confused

Damn, that's got to be scary for the FA - no other FAs to help you out, only the goodwill of the pax.

We get bags that reek of something or another from time to time, when its on a cart with who knows how many bags you just don't go searching for which one is making the smell. Its asking for trouble.

Are Federal Air Marshals ever present on Regional Flights, especially on small a/c?

The flight deck was not in danger. Air Marshals are everywhere, you just dont know it.

Bizzare story.. But they just let anyone fly now a days..

I was on a DL L-1011 flight (IAH-ORD) once where a passenger did this to one of the lavs. I mean they spread the crap all over the walls and ceiling. I found out about is as I went back to the rear lavs and one of the F/A's told me that they were out of service for the time being. The rest of the F/A's were back there looking at it and groaning, so I got to see it too. Since there wasn't any line for the lavs (very light flight) they didn't know who did it. But they had a OUT OF SERVICE sign on the door and locked it up.
I still think it's sick, very sick.
And to cover themselves in poo... Man, that must have been a sight straight from hell!

According to the article, they landed in Omaha an hour after the incident...but why wait? If I were a passenger, I'd want the pilots to get the plane on the ground as soon as possible.

They are not everywhere. They are scattered few and far between. The program is a deterrent based upon probabilities.

Hopefully he is in touch with the EAP and getting a full medical work up!!  Wow! man i feel for the guy (and the pax, of course).

As far as the FAM's are concerned, even if they were onboard they would not do anything as the flight deck was not in danger of attack or breach. For the past 6 years at recurrent, they keep beating into our heads that unruly or insane behavior could be a diversion and do NOT use the FAMs (if present) as a resource.

Since being posted, the article has been edited to remove all mention of faeces.

Most odd... has someone called BS on this one, or is the faeces content too iffy for the local populous?
