Attention Miami spotters, on Thursday and Friday Air Canada is expected to bring a 777-300/ER on AC916 from Toronto..... arriving Miami at 12:18, departing back to Toronto at 14:20.
Could this be the first time a 777-300 has landed at Miami?

can any one tell me where a good spot to see this plane would be??
Probably from the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant parking lot just off of the 836 xway and Red road.

What is the reason for this?? Is it because of big demand these days??

I believe you are correct sir. A month or two ago one of the Gate Control senior agents told me that they have not had a -300 in there yet. Unless one has come in during the past month this would be the first. I may mosey down there to catch a shot of it.

It depends on the winds, but if they land on 26/27, the Walmart parking on 87th Ave is perfect Should they be landing on 08/09, Hard-Rock cafe in Bayside is a really good place. If you have an airband, check to see what runways are open before you head down there.
Where aviation is not the side show, it's the main show!!!

If anybody in MIA wants to see a NW 747-400, you will have one Friday Jan 2 scheduled arrival at 3:00pm. It will be carrying the Oklahoma Sooners football team and the flight number will be 9982.
If they need such an aircraft to pick up the passengers on their way home, what brought them down there in the first place? There is only one AC flight to Miami each day. I think there may be more to the 77W visiting MIA.
As a side note, the 77W flight is fetching $575 per economy seat for tomorrow's flight.

Is the "holes" spotting area no longer open? I would think this would be a good location, or the area beside El Dorado Furniture if landings are to the east.

A very basic example of the situation would be as follows:
1 flight per day, 120 - 150 pax.
If a significant amount of people that travelled down on the 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th (600-750 pax) all want to come back today or tomorrow, so that they are home easily in time for work on Monday, the daily A319/320 won't fit them all.
Hence AC notices increased demand, and larger a/c needed. 77W = 350 pax per day = increase of between 230 and 290% per day.
There was at least one cancellation today (AC915 to Toronto) and the larger aircraft was subbed in to bring passengers from flights 915 & 917 home in one shot.

Quoting AA388 (Reply 20): Did anybody catch it today? I really would like to go see it tomorrow.
I did. I guessed right and it came in on runway 12 while the sun was between clouds. The reg was C-FIUR. I also confirmed with one of my former employees that this was the first B777-300 to ever land at MIA.
