Screwy 747-300or400 In Desert...?

Hey all... this photo is new to the archives and is listed as a 747-3..., it's B-HON and I looked it up in the airliner census and it comes out as a 747-367 for Cathay Pacific, so the info. is accurate, but look at the wing-to-body fairing and the engines, it looks completely like a -400.

This is a pic. of a 747-300, notice the wing-body fairing isn't as smooth, and the engines, as on most -300s are typical to -100s.

And here's one to really throw you! It's definitely a -300 but the engines are typical to -400 series... go figure?!

Anyone who can explain B-HON go figure (this El Al makes sense, just newer engines, but that B-HON bit is weird...).

Towards the end of the 747-300 production run, a number of features from the 747-400 (which was already in production by then) were incorporated into the remaining -300's that were built. Yes indeed, a number of them did received the leading edge wing root fairings from the -400 and some GE-engined birds did received the newer generation CF-6.

I believe Thai's and Air India's -300's also spot the revised wing root.

Besides the 747-300, the modified wing root also found its way into the last few 747-200's (all freighters) that were built. Look closely at the photos below of JA8191 and JA8194 belonging to NCA (Nippon Cargo Airlines). Incidentally, JA8194 was the last 747-200 ever built.

I'm glad you pointed this out. I saw the pic earlier today and was wondering the exact same thing. Thanks 949WP! Learn something new about my favorite airplane every once in a while.

Most of the internal systems in B-HON were already like those of the -400. It still had a 3-man cockpit, but many of the other features were already like that of the newer 747.
