Hey Guys:

I am tracking my cousins flight home, and when she booked the ticket,as well as when I just checked DL's website it showed the flight as a Boeing 757, However when I checked the Flightaware website it showed it as an MD-88.. I would like to know if it is indeed going to be a 757 and if you can provide the tail number it would be an even bigger bonus! As long as she doesn't get on anything larger then a 757 its fine with me!  Wink.

Here is the flight info:

DL 1833 KJFK-KTPA 01/03/2009

When did she book the ticket? DL is notorious for swapping aircraft types around if you booked the ticket more than a month in advance.

It looks like she booked it on October 24,2008, both herself and I looked at the seat map and it was that of a 757, then when I looked up her status it showed her as a 757 on DL's website yet on flightaware it shows it as a MD-88. If anyone knows the tail number of 1833 that might help it out.

Looks like it's a daily M88 but the last two Saturdays it has been a 752. Delta.com says it will be a 752 again today and I'll bet that it's what it will be.

You can't always rely on Flightaware's scheduled flights now. Since they did that major change a while ago, what happens is it starts to "think on it's own", in other words it sees that every day there's a flight at this time with this type of aircraft, so it thinks another is going to be scheduled for today, and sometimes even the next day. Until they dispatcher actually files the flightplan (which you can't tell when it happens anymore, because of this automated system), the information is not guaranteed.

FWIW, Delta.com's seat map for this flight (which I've found to be the most reliable way to tell...more reliable than flightaware, more reliable than the flight status on delta.com) shows this flight as a 757-200 in the 26F configuration, meaning it will have the AVOD.

Certainly, March 18, 2008. You can read about the changes in the news release:

AVOD is only available on the 757's with winglets correct? or is it also offered on the ex song 757s ala N638DL?

Quoting Pilotboi (Reply 7):

Thank You!

Also does anyone know the leg of this a/c as I found a JFK Acars website and I figured it might be a good way to get the regi there.

Nope - all the winglet planes have AVOD (not necessarily LiveTV - the ex-TWA planes do not, but there are some 757s doing domestic-only runs that were delivered to Delta with winglets). However, there are also quite a few 757s (at least 40 I'd guess) that do not have winglets but do have AVOD/LiveTV.

A breakdown:

The ex-TWA/AA ones have winglets and AVOD w/o LiveTV.

No 757 was originally delivered to Delta with winglets.

48 757s have AVOD w/ LiveTV - these are the ex-song birds - they do transcon flights mostly.

Only 3 of those 48 have gotten winglets so far (648, 649, 650).

So if we're talking about winget 757s only, there are 20: 3 w/ AVOD+TV and 17 w/ AVOD only.
