It appears that Alaska's Paint-the-Plane contest is over and a winner has been selected.

http://www.painttheplane.com/?CID=AS_HOME2L_PAINTPLANE

The winner is an 11th-grade student from Sitka High School won the contest. The winning paint job is displayed on the indicated website. Congratulations to the winning student!

The airplane will be a 737-400 and it will be on the aircraft for four years. Anyone have any indication when the paint job will be applied to an aircraft?

Kind of off-the-subject...does anyone know when the QX Q400's will have the northwest university logos applied?

I like it! She put some great thought into it, and I think it will look great on the plane.

It looks great - and good for AS to be painting so many acft in special liveries; how many do they have now (including this one)?

Look forward to seeing it "in the flesh", as it were!

Both were great, but I think 9th grader Tesia White's would've been the most unique livery in the sky. I can imagine some folks not familiar with native art might have found it a little spooky tho.

Just a quick question: How easy/hard would it be to paint the plane like this? Especially the subtle colour gradients?

I think it would have been even cooler had she used the flight deck windows as eyes for that thing.

The first university themed Q400 should arrive sometime this month or next month. From what we have been told, they are being introduced as the CRJ university planes leave the fleet. Since A/C 602QX has already left, the first one (IIRC N435QX) should be in University of Washington colors.

I LOVE IT!!! Definately captures the "spirit of Alaska".

Some of those kids did EXTREMELY well, but even some of the good ones wouldn't have worked anyway, as they seem to not understand their artwork is to be 3D and round, and one of the canvases is sticking out (the engines themselves).

That design looks pretty good. There's an error on the page that the link posted gives. The first description (orange) of the winner shows that she is in 11th Grade and the second description (blue) towards the bottom of the page says that she's a senior.

Which aircraft will this livery be on?

My guess is that it's one of the airplanes going through C or D checks...and that Boeing wanted too much money for the paint job on the production line. Just speculation.

I agree. It reminded me a bit of the Qantas Wunala Dreaming.

I think it would have been an amazing choice.

This will be great to see in the flesh. Well done Alaskan, I am sure that competition would have generated a huge amount of interest. Just one suggestion (if it has not been thought of allready) the young lady's name could appear on the ac somewhere, as an artists "signature".
Can one of you a,netters up in that part of the world post when it becomes reality, with some pics.

Yes! I love native art. Although if this one was selected then AS would have 2 fish planes flying around.

I really liked Jamelyn Ebelacker's (12th grade) on the Finalists page. Wish the Big Dipper had made its way onto the winning design like in this one, other than the 50th anniversary logo.

Hey Obama, keep the change! I want my dollar back.

28 Dazed767 : Wow that's going to look sharp. 2nd, 7th and 12th grade runner ups weren't too bad either. 8th grade finalist with the waterfall....pretty amazing.

36 Itsasmallworld : The -800 doesn't fly intra-Alaska flights much or at all. So if it were painted on the -800, most of the state would never have it visit their city.
37 Aloha717200 : The one submitted by Jamelyn Ebelacker in the second half of the "finalists" is really nice looking as well.

39 Lovetojetblue : I like the HS freshman and the HS senior. The 12th grader's submission had an amazingly real representation of the AS logo
