Heard a rumor at work that US Airways is not going to let ZW non-rev on them starting in Feb. All we would be able to do is purchase ZED fares on them and other carriers. Can anyone confirm this?

If this happens to be true then ZW better be ready to loose a lot of good employees, As usual ZW's inept management would let US do this to us after everything that ZW has done for US during and after their merger with HP. I certainly will not stay at ZW then.

I can't believe for a second this is true as long as we have the US contract. ZW is the Largest US express carrier operating, and they have the big PHL operation. But that aside, US currently has some of the best travel benefits in the industry and to take that away is just a bad idea, at a time when ZW and US enjoy excellent relations, this would only serve to sour them, which is not a good idea given the contract still has 6-7 years on it.

This would not be unlike what UA pulled on ZW near the end, which was to take away non rev benefits before the ZW operation ended for UA. I had to fly in the jumpseat on ZW just to fly on my own carrier. This isn't right.

But I highly doubt this rumor is true at all.

Now this rumor is floating around and it is starting to sound more credible. Apparently US doesn't like losing money transporting so many non revs, so this is another nickel and dime strategy to increase revenue. Memo to US, how about filling your planes more, and you will make more money that way.

This will have serious repurcussions for US and their affiliates if this is true though. ZW is going to lose more good people because it will make commuting that much more difficult. Thank god for the CASS program. This seems to be the only way I can get anywhere anymore.

That's the way i heard it, something like if we can't non-rev on them we would be more motivatied to buy a ticket on them. I'd be more motivated to buy a ticket on NW, at least i can fly out of my home airport and give myself good seats.

Ok, here is a rumor killer. I just got the memo from management about this. Basically there are two options for ZW employees. Option 1 is the status quo as we currently have it, Option 2 allows you to pay a small fee for access to Zed Fares and ID 90's. Option 2 is cheaper than Option 1, but the fact is space available travel is still available, and its still the same as before.

The rumor is somewhat false.

So with option 1 can we still get ZED Fares? or do we have to pick between the two?

Option 1 is completely status quo, and you will be able to get ZED fares on both US and ZW agreements.

Option 2 only lets you purchase ZED fares through the ZW pass bureau.

From what I have been informed ( I am not at work today), Option 1 or keeping the flying benefits as is, will only apply to those ZW employees that work directly for the US flight contract. The ZW employees that do not service the contract, those in outstations such as ELP where ZW ground handles UA, will not have a choice and will have to use Option 2 or the ZED fare option. To add insult to injury if one of those ZW employees buys the ZED ticket to fly on a US Express flight operated by ZW, he or she would still fly under an SA9 priority! That would place them behind US employees! That is absolute BS! It goes to show how inept ZW management can be when negotiating a contract and it destroys any goodwill that those employees may have towards US.
