CO 120 To BCN 762 Instead Of 752

CO 120, EWR to BCN operated with a 762 tonight (Jan 13th). This is normally a 752. Was the A/C switch due to the need for more PAX or was it due to a MX issue?

While it always could have been a MX issue, my guess is that they had a large group bound for a cruise.

CO's 752 and 762 are of roughly the same capacity
752 (16/159)
762 (25/149)

I would doubt that they put this on the EWR-BCN route to accomodate a larger party (as the 762 is actually slightly smaller by 1 seat) but instead (1) due to high BF load-unlikely, (2) MX swap or (3) cargo demand.

flight was empty, so it was a MX swap

Well if were just raw seats Continental actually have 1 seat LESS on the B762 than B752WL.

The make up however differs
The B762 25 Business and 149 Economy Total 174
The B752WL 16 Business and 159 Economy Total 175 !

MX issue actually most likely or a need for some extra freight uplift of which B762 can provide over the B752WL

There's a misconception about how big the 767-200 really is, in CO's configurations their 757-200s have 1 more seat than their 767-200s. So obviously it's not a capacity issue since going from a 757 to a 767-200 is a capacity reduction (albeit 1 seat).

Last December in my return flight from Venezia in a McDonnell Douglas of Itali Airlines (operating a MyAir flight) were parked alongside of a CO Boeing 767-200 registered as N76151.

Asking for the CO staff at BCN airport, they said me that a problem with the planned Boeing 757 at EWR made real the arrival of this aircraft at Barcelona on December 17, 2008.
