I really think FL should start to focus on IND more. NW is now gone and it doesn't seem DL is extremely interested in protecting IND. DL has already cut some flights. FL I think already has like five gates it can use with plenty to spare.

Not too strong a start at Burlington; but maybe it'll pick up..

Yup I agree, although it's not horrible it's still pretty poor, which is most likey why they droped it down to 2X daily instead of 3X (which fits the route more properly). IMO I think FL needs to do somthing with BTV, like add ATL and a Florida route. Also they need to retime the departures to BWI which always seem to have 30 minute connection times to other destinations.

If one were to consider MKE as a mini-hub, it is a serious money looser.

It is also of interest is that the point to point flying does so much better than the "hub" flying.

Florida is a genuine opportunity - but they have been trying to diversify from ATL for atleast the past few years.

That's partially methodological. The data MOBFlyer is using will always be biased toward nonstop p2p flights and shorter flights. If you ever saw FL's actual books, the numbers would be a bit different.

I know they only operated into CMH for a couple months last year, but how is FL doing there? They just added a flight to FLL in addition to ATL, MCO, and TPA, so the results must be somewhat good.

Again if anyone has any question as to why DAB was cut.

Crazy that 19 of the 58 stations are on the plus side.

Ouch thats pretty ugly. GPT just lost subsidies right, and thats why they cut it?

First, I'm guessing the subsidy is making the data screwy for GPT. Second, I have heard that the casinos are re-launching a cheaper program with another carrier. I don't know any more about that. So, it is possible that FL was making money, too much money, and the casinos dumped them for another deal.

I don't think so, it is always full/oversold. Now I know that doesn't mean profit, but in this economy full planes should be kept.

I see MSP-MCO/ATL aren't so good for FL.  Sad And I can see why FL dropped MSP-MDW.

Hopefully FL won't drop MSP all together.

Begs to wonder if FL wants to continue TransCon flights and even expand them should they look at trying to pick up some 789's, 757's or even take the plunge and go for some 783's or A330's? Would this help the CASM and fuel cost ratio?

Also, looking at the numbers does make you wonder why they are not pushing IND, BWI and even perhaps DFW?

Do you think FL is looking at MEM and IND where NW/DL will most likely move out of?

I really think FL should start to focus on IND more. NW is now gone and it doesn't seem DL is extremely interested in protecting IND.

OTOH, DL has always kept a pretty close eye on FL in ATL; they probably keep more capacity and more F seats on FL routes than they would if FL didn't serve the cities in question. What would that mean at IND? Tough question...

If FL wants to continue to attract some business passengers, I think they need to stay in some of these larger markets even if they lose money because of the value they bring to the network.

If BMI and PHX had the same financial performance (they don't), BMI would probably get dropped before MSP.

Who says they're "likely" to move out of either?

Using that logic, FL should be looking at CVG as well, then...

Looking at the numbers, I see some good trends (profits at BWI, IND and MCO) and some disturbing ones (big losses on all of the long haul flights to the Western cities and to Puerto Rico). It looks like they need to trim down some legs at ATL, where Delta is "king".

As for DAB, FL's flights fell victim to recently-completed improvements to Interstate 4, which along with SR 417, allows bargain-hunting DAB fliers to drive from to SFB (for G4's cheap flights) in a little over 30 minutes, and to MCO (WN, et. al.) in a little over an hour. It was a noble experiment by FL that failed.

25 MOBflyer : Here you go: Route ...........… CASM .........… RASM .........… PASM .......… Margin GPT-TPA …….. $0.13755 …….. $0.25364 …….. $0.
26 MKE22 : I realize now that these are the earlier numbers reported, but do these numbers include connections from BOS, LGA, BWI and all other places at all? I
27 MOBflyer : Yes. They include "segment revenue" which is prorated ticket revenue for the segment in question.. Connections, on each end, are included. Please not
28 MOBflyer : Do you care to explain my methodology further? I'd be delighted to hear it. Among other things, I use the industry standard measure of allocation by
29 MKP1013 : Interesting. Thanks for taking the time to post the data MOBflyer. To everyone: What's your opinion on the midwest markets? What about dropping ICT an
30 Super80DFW : I believe FL already tried a focus city at DFW, and are now back to just ATL, BWI, and MCO. I could definitely see FL starting a new focus city at IN
31 MOBflyer : ICT has subsidies that far more than make up for the figures posted above. This data does not have a subsidy applied. FL made money in GPT - but they
32 Burnsie28 : Yeah after they gave a big speech about "being commited to IND"
33 MKENut : Wow! MKE looks like a money pit for FL. I think if MKE performs the same way in 2009, FL will give up on the idea of a Focus City or Mini Hub here.
34 Pilotfox : They are not giving up yet, word on the street is they are going up to 30 flights/day later this year.
35 Cubsrule : The attempt at STL-Florida has basically failed. They'd have done better (and still might do well) to have a look at some more business-oriented mark
36 FL787 : It could probably work and is pretty good geographically but I wonder if they could get a good deal on gates with big terminal costs to make up. Yeah
37 MKENut : I will believe it when I see it. I will be very happy to see it happen though.
38 FlyPNS1 : But that's not the internal standard that airlines use when evaluating the profitability of a station. Every airline has their own ways of allocating
39 TVNWZ : They have to be rethinking that MKE strategy. Even if FL internal data is different---it won't be that different. MKE = money pit.
40 DaCubbyBearBar : Not 1 profitable run for LAS, which shows where the economy has gone. If I were FL, I might consider leaving LAS for the next 18 months.
41 FlyPNS1 : A few things have changed though. YX has significantly reduced operations and fuel prices have plunged. Of course, the economy has nose-dived too. I
42 Super80DFW : Last time they tried DFW, AA ran their little focus city out of town. I have no doubt AA would do it again to.
43 FL787 : I thought we were talking about IND?
44 Vivavegas : A little birdy is whispering "3 or 4 new cities from MKE this summer". New meaning not served last summer. Birdy mentions "30+ departures this summer"
45 Toltommy : Nice to see that FL at CAK can still be a thorn in CO's side up in CLE. Especially on the CAK-LGA flights.
46 Knope2001 : Certainly lower fuel costs will help the net results in whatever AirTran decides to offer at Milwaukee. The rising tide lifts all boats, as they say.
