Quoting ERJ170 (Reply 2): All I can say is THANK GOD! That departure are was sooo small and there would always be soo many people there.. it was horrible.
I agree, but the old terminal did have a certain "charm" about it. You definitely knew you were only 90 miles off the coast of Cuba. I'd like to see some better pictures of the new terminal. From these artist renderings the new design looks a little boring to me. It doesn't look unique or special. I do like Marathon's terminal, but we all know how much (or little) use that place down the road gets.

Quoting UN_B732 (Reply 3): idk who else would want to fly to EYW; with the short runway and all..
Oh. I'm sure other airlines would like a chance.. but I think it is currently at capacity or something? I know that if 2 flights are leaving at the same time, you need butta just to get past security. And don't let one of them be the AA ATR or US E70.. then you have to sit on top of each other and breath in sequence just to get some air!

The best way to go to EYW is go general aviation. I fly a Cessna down there with the wife several times a year from Tamiami near Miami. Go in the morning, spend the day, have a nice lunch and come back in late aftternoon. And its a great view both ways. The runway is plenty long for me. And it is usually less expensive than what the airlines charge to get there. Just have to watch the weather, especially in the summer.

Yea, that old terminal was cramped & outdated as hell but it did have an 'old school' charm to it. I have a hard time determining airport terminals from malls these days. IIRC from the plaque outside the old terminal, it was built by PanAm in the 1920s(?)and is on the Historical Register.
