Yay. How cool. PDX can get boring some days especially during certain times of the day.

NRT and AMS switch to 767 the first week of June....any idea if DL will open a crew base in PDX or SEA?

Maui is good. I'd have preferred Kona, since we already have non-stops to OGG on HA. I think Kona could probably handle a daily 73G and they'd be the only non-stop on the route. But it's still good.
Calgary is cool too. Has QX ever served that route? What equipment will Jazz use?

Nope, nobody has ever served that route non-stop before. AC Jazz will be using their mammoth 50-seater CRJ-200 on the route once per day!

Hey, that's a lot better than the Dash 8-300s we get from Jazz now...

Both are 50 seats! And have you been on an AC CRJ? I feel more cramped in those than the DH3.

NW and DL already have a SEA domicile.

No PDX domicile as of now. It was investigated on the NW pre-merger and was deemed not economical at the time.

Yeah, but the Jazz DH3s are no Q400s. They're ancient, slow and fantastically loud. At least the CRJs are somewhat quieter and much faster. Any idea if Jazz has figured out replacement plans for those DH3s yet? It's gotta be getting time...

I am sure there is some sort of backroom deal going on. But nothing public. Perhaps they will keep them as long as NW kept their DC9s! :L

What equipment? 73G's? What are they going to do about ETOPS? I know that AQ was previously flying ETOPS 73G's Hawaii-mainland, but doesn't AS have to fly their ETOPS fleet for a while before starting the route to build the statistics and prove ETOPS compliance?

Well... They've been flying to Hawaii from Seattle for awhile now, so I'm guessing they'd take the same approach to ETOPS and fleet for the Portland route.

AS has flown ANC-Hawaii and SEA-Hawaii for over 2 years now. It's not anything new for them anymore.

Also, Hawaii flights are exclusively 73H, not 73G.

Nice to see additional service at PDX. Hopefully now that AS has resumed aircraft deliveries, and fuel prices are down, PDX will get some service back. PDX-ORD makes a lot of sense, as does a return of PDX-MCO.

At least some airlines are adding flights at PDX. We (United) keep downgrading flights to RJ's.

A DL friend of mine will be based in the new PDX AFP (Alternative Flying Program, Deltaism for satellite base) in June 09. He said about 130 F/As were awarded the slots. I'm not sure about Flt Ops and how they will handle the flying though.

Alaska only uses 738s for ETOPS flights to Hawaii and Cancun ... and the PDX - Hawaii service was delayed due to the strike at Boeing as Alaska didn't have enough ETOPS 738s to start the service

Is DAL trying to rebuild PDX or did I not understand that correctly?

Not really. They're just taking over NWA's overseas routes out of PDX with their own equipment (763ERs)

DL does not have a pilot base at SEA or PDX. PDX won't see one because there is just not enough flying there. It will be flown with crews on a 6 day trip going through AMS twice.

...so XXX-AMS-PDX-AMS-XXX. Does that mean that both NYC and CVG crews will be handling some of the EWR-AMS flights? Do NYC crews start and end trips at EWR now?

A 767 can go non-stop fron PDX-NRT???? Isn't that stretching her a little?

According the Great Circle Maper:
PDXNRT: 4822
PDXAMS: 5004
ORDDME: 5011

A 763 should be able to operate PDXNRT just fine.

25 PDXCessna206 : I wonder if they will use one of the 30 aircraft being fitted with winglets for this route, and the AMS one.
26 SeaBosDca : Not necessary. PDX-NRT and PDX-AMS are both 10+ hour flights, and don't push the 763. Delta will use its first winglet aircraft on 12-13 hour flights
27 Pnh2atl : NYC crews have to cover both NYC airports and EWR. Normally they would start and end at the same airport. Ive not been based up there is a while but
