I wish them luck. They need some good news after the layoffs this week.
I translated the main points here:
-Ricardo Baston, Vice President responsible for fleet development at Mexicana, is studying the possibility of obtaining CSeries planes by 2014.
-They're in discussions; but aren't in any hurry. A decision should be made in 18 to 24 months.
-They're also negociating with Boeing Capital on renting 25 B717s for its subsidiary Click.
-If they take the CSeries, the deliveries would take place between 2014 and 2016. Bombardier would deliver the first jet in 2013. However, they'd prefer not be the launch customer.
-Bombardier didn't want to confirm whether it had entered into discussions with Mexicana. A spokesperson stated that they're in discussions with several airlines. The only ones he could confirm were Lufthansa, ILFC and Qatar Airways.

Quoting Yulguy (Thread starter): However, they'd prefer not be the launch customer.
Do airlines that serve as the launch customer get any extra financial support dealing with the quirks that always come with a new airplane entering service? Is their a reason that Mexicana would be interested in an airplane but not want to be the launch customer?

Launch customers get assorted special treatments simply for being launchers. When the 777 was a newborn design, UA, BA, CX, NH, and most of the "Working Together" crew received their first deliveries extraordinarily spiffed up and at killer discounts, after these airframes all rigorously helped to cert the type.
Fast forward to today, and NH et al are getting massively compensated for their first 787's, as these first birds are FAR overweight. Bottom line, manufacturers will definitely treat you, the LC, well.

Thanks very much AeroHero128!
I really hope to see the Cseries, and I hope that Mexicana will order the type. It is nice to see them planning so far in advance, risky, but smart in my mind. Show's they have confidence that they will be around til then.

Mexicana closes in on 717s and evaluates CSeries
Mexicana is close to finalising a deal to lease 25 Boeing 717s and is looking at acquiring the Bombardier CSeries as a potential replacement for the 717s when their leases expire in 2014 to 2016.
ATI first reported last week that Mexicana was negotiating with Boeing Capital a lease deal covering about 25 717s for its low-cost unit Click, which currently operates a fleet of 25 Fokker 100s.

Mexicana is probably planning on having a fleet made up of Bombardier and Airbus products. Great for comonality purposes.
