Smart move, one which I wish the US would follow.

In today ever globalized world, barriers that limit free movement of capital only serve to hurt those airlines that cannot access such monies.

With most other parts of the economy open to such investment, its time the airlines are allowed to follow suit.

Canada mulls easing airline ownership rules
Mon Feb 9, 2009 -

Canada's Conservative government came under fire from opposition legislators on Monday over plans to raise foreign ownership limits on domestic airlines, including Air Canada, the country's largest carrier.

Under the planned changes, Ottawa would be authorized to increase foreign ownership limits to 49 percent from 25 percent, a move that Air Canada, once government-owned, said in September that it welcomed.

Under the proposed arrangement, there would have to be reciprocal agreement with the foreign investor's home country before any increased investment would be allowed, the Transport Ministry said.

Does Germany allow 49% ownership by non-German investor/airline? If yes, will LH be interested in Air Canada?

I really like this reciprocal agreement clause. Thats fair and limits unfair competition.

More of those would do the world a lot of good.
