You ain't kidding Cal.. I have trees and power lines down all around my neighborhood here in Youngstown. A few neighbors are running on generators because their electrical lines to their homes were crushed by pine tree's.

Winds were 50-55kts yesterday here, and I am guessing around 40-45kts around Buffalo this evening. Could be a factor for sure.

No SAAB 340's enroute. Had to be a Dash 8 if it was Colgan.

They all drop off there. Probably where approach hands them off to tower.

Colgan 3407 is the aircraft in question, a Dash 8 Q400! It is on the live ATC archives and it is all over the approach and tower frequency! Apparently it was just prior to the outer marker! More info as it breaks! Still waiting on the press to break it!

CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) - A small plane has crashed into a house on Long Street west of Goodrich.

We are told everyone who was in that house got out safely, but that house is engulfed in flames.

It's described as a 'massive fire' at the scene.

There is no word on the fate of the pilot of the plane or anyone else who may have been on board.

The first report of this crash came in about 10:20 p.m.

The area is shut down right now.

We do know a command center has been set up at Roll Road and Goodrich, that is near the scene.

Some residents have been evacuated.

Do you think they mean the neighborhood area has been shut down? Might not be the airport since the plane didn't crash on airport site right?

151 Post contains links Flashmeister : Here's an approximate GMaps street view of the accident scene, as best as I could estimate based on an approximate address included in one of the news
152 Aogdesk : I'm very sorry to hear that.
153 FlyMIA : Completley normal for two planes to land 6 minutes after each other. At busy airports its every 2 minutes
154 San747 : If indeed all on board have died, it is very disheartening to hear. My condolences to all those involved. I'll be honest, this crash for some reason a
155 KDTWFlyer : Aw man what a blow to the otherwise optimistic safety record we recently had. RIP crew and pax!
156 N104UA : NY State Police have just confirmed all 48 on board dead Prayers go out to all of the Families of the victims[Edited 2009-02-12 22:27:48]
157 FlyMIA : New York State Police have confirmed all people on board have died and one on the ground.
158 San747 : I think he's noticing it's unusual for two flights from the same airport to land within minutes of each other. It's not unheard of, but not common. I
159 Longhornmaniac : He was saying to CO flights from EWR. Interesting to hear reports of a "high pitched whistle" while plane was in the air. Also unconfirmed eyewitness
160 Alessandro : Even worse for Bombardier, the aircraft model got really bad press earlier from all landinggear failures and now this.[Edited 2009-02-12 22:34:34]
161 Bralo20 : Confirmation was given. 48 people died on board of the plane...
162 SkyHarborsHome : Wow. 49 Confirmed. All of us will go to sleep with heavier hearts.
163 Mattbna : No need for a re-cap... Most people will start at the top and read down through the replies. As OPNLguy explained - by the time they get through the
164 FlyMIA : Yes Even though still not a major airline crash still a very sad day Horrible news. May all RIP on board. Prayers be with their families.
165 Phoenix9 : RIP. Prayers and condolences to the families.
166 Post contains links HangarRat : Compare the pilot's voice at about 14:05 to the Colgan flight's last transmission at about 15:17. Her voice sounds less confident, somehow. Busy or d
167 WeAreUnited : I can't even imagine. I'm so sorry to hear that.
168 Radarbeam : Horrible news. May the crew and the passengers rest in peace.
169 Post contains links OPNLguy : "Most likely"...and you'll see their info change as well.... If anyone who has listened to the .MP3 of the ATC audio and is wondering where/what "KLU
170 Dc863 : After the USAirways Hudson River incident I had a feeling that "good luck" had ran out. Unfortunately I believe that this is going to be a bad year.
171 Skoker : This was the first report I received from the folks I work with...it was in rush form and in no means a final word.... just passing info off to fello
172 FlyMIA : Yea mis-read that. As stated before flights where delayed.
173 Semsem : SAS grounded and got rid of their Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 fleet.
174 Maxpower1954 : I'm interested how eye witmesses observed the landing gear was up...at night.
175 BAW2198 : does anybody know who CJC uses for mtc?
176 Aogdesk : 1. Someone that works at BUF most likely isn't at the exact scene of the event at the time of the event. 2. Under those circumstances, that person mo
177 KirkSeattle : This is horrible news. My condolences to the families of passengers and crew, the Continental family and the residents of Clarence Center. -Kirk
178 ElBandGeek : and that has nothing to do with this. Those were eraly model Q400s that have sence (AFAIK) had the issue resolved. SAS got rid of them for PR reasons
179 AEroc : Although it was dark and raining eye whitness say that the plane went down nose first...straight into the ground. Seems to me that if thats the case i
180 Mattbna : ...which is basically what I said. I'd rather have accurate information than quick information any day. --
181 Post contains images Osiris30 : I think it's probably a little bit premature for that just yet. While this is undoubtedly a very sad occurrance, there is no reason to believe that a
182 Flyboy7974 : Does anybody else notice that in the NY Times clip and image of the fire, dont look so deep into picture but right there up front, see that, it's the
183 Legacytravel : This reminds me the crash that killed Alan Kulwicki at Tri Cities outside of Bristol TN in 1993. There was icing and a chunk of ice was sucked into b
184 Post contains images WhoopWhoop : whipped this up on google earth. good witness who called it in at 2217 said the aircraft was flying NORTH not south west as he drove eastbound on Clar
185 JCS17 : It's all icing, unfortunately.
186 Dc863 : I hope I'm wrong too.
187 Iowaman : There's all kinds of icing reports, one a few minutes before the crash of a Cessna I believe wanting to get higher immediately, and numerous reports o
188 A318 : We can check who the crew members were on our employee website.
189 Longhornmaniac : According to Google Earth, Long St. is about 6.2 miles from the threshold for 23 at KBUF, FWIW. Cheers, Cameron
190 Radarbeam : I just finished listening to the ATC recording. The lack of a May Day or Pan Pan is troubling. It could mean the crew had very little time to react to
191 N104UA : Please DO NOT release the names let the families be notified first from the proper people and the NTSB so they can decide when they want to release t
192 Nws2002 : That's what I thought it sounded like too, like someone said something funny and she was trying hard not to laugh. I've been calling everyone I can t
193 Longhornmaniac : I agree. The fact that the plane created such a large crater in congruence with the lack of a distress call tells me this happened really suddenly, a
194 Post contains links KDTWFlyer : Did some research... When ATC said 3 miles from KLUMP intersection located here http://www.fallingrain.com/waypoint/US/KLUMP.html the crash site was l

197 Skoker : NO. That is the flight number.
198 Osiris30 : That's the flight number. The tail number has already been established.
199 F9Animal : I listened to it too, and had chills up my spine. She sounded very calm, maybe a little busy on the last transmission. I am deeply saddened by this,
200 Layzhon : Yeah sorry about that, my mixup
