Lufthansa is operating an A-340-300 with LH crew for LX on flts 52/53 ZRH-BOS-ZRH today thru Sunday (2/13-2/15) due to crew shortage. Does anyone know why this might be?

Why there is a CREW SHORTAGE? All they fly internationally is A330/340s. Maybe a an LX employee can assist. Thanks for the wise cracks though.

Crew shortage is crew shortage, meaning they don't have enough crew to operate their whole network. This has got nothing to do with how many different types of aircraft an airline operates. Part of the problem is that LX is still short of pilots, and to avoid that all of their pilots run out of dutytime towards the end of the year like last year, they have LH operate a few of their flights now so that they can "spare" their own pilots. Problem should be solved soon though as LX is still actively recruiting cabin crew and about 60 or so new pilots should finish their training this year at LX's own pilotschool and subsequently join the airline.

I'm one of them Big grin

LX also contracted with AC to operate their ZRH-YUL-ZRH route from October 26 to December 15 last year. AC used the A330-300 on those flights.

Exactly, and they also had to cut back on several longhaul routes towards the end of the year. All because they slowly but surely started to run out of available longhaul pilots because, like i said, most of them reached their maximum hours.

Does that mean LH will operate some other long haul flights for LX in the following months?

BTW: When are you expected to have your first flight, towards the end of the year?
