Hi Guys, I must admit I feel a bit silly putting this out to the site, but you never know.
At about 17h45 this evening (JNB time) I was out in the front garden when I observed an SA A342 take off from JNB heading south. The a/c t hen banked right towards me and flew across my line of sight. As it got closer I noticed a "bump" under the nose area. It looked like either the nosegear had not retracted properly or that the gear doors had not closed. I thought of running for my binoculars but realised that by the time I got back, the a/c would be out of sight. Just then, the main undercarriage was lowered and it looked as though it was no longer climbing. I watched it until it disappeared from my line of sight with undercarriage still lowered.
Does anyone at JNB or SA know if SA 52 to Accra got away OK today (I think it was SA 52 - time seemed about right) or if any other SA A340"s had an undercarriage problen this evening?
