From the news article in November announcing the flights. This is the fair use from the Messenger Inquirer.

Nov. 11--Mickey Mouse just got a lot closer to Owensboro.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air LLC announced plans Tuesday to begin non-stop jet service from Owensboro to Orlando on Feb. 18.

The airline will offer an introductory fare of $69 each way, John Fenyes, director of sales, told a morning news conference in the lobby of Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport.

My wife and I are driving up to Owensboro tonight and will be on the first flight to SFB. We are also coming back on the first return Saturday. When we booked about three weeks ago, there was only a handful of seats left. Should be real fun to see how this services goes and to see what, if any, affect it has on EVV.

Sounds like EVV will get hammered with those high load factors. And I bet that a lot of those flights are cheap vacation packages, complete with a hotel room, Disney or Universal tickets, and a rental Hyundai Sonata (which seems to have displaced the Chrysler Sebring as the midsize car of choice among rental fleets as of late).

As for EVV: I think they blew it, big time. First, they went down to two airlines as part of the DL/NW merger. Then, they didn't want to play by G4's rules... they only offered 1 free year of waived fees to them, just like every other airline at EVV. Everyone knows you can't do that with G4... they always demand heavy incentives. Next, airport management defended the lack of aggressive incentives, said that "we just wanted to be fair to the other airlines here". I smell Direct Air, the poor airport's Allegiant, coming in to EVV soon with EVV-SFB/MYR as a knee-jerk response to this huge missed opportunity...

Little or none.

Really? You know G4 only flies to SFB from OWB right? I doubt the bulk of EVV's traffic is going to MCO right now. Theyll see a drop in their Orlando traffic, probably 80% of it considering how close OWB is.

Thats true, Allegiant isnt interested in playing ball unless you play by their rules.

Why's that? I dont think airports that fail at Allegiant run out and get Direct air as a moral bandaid. Direct cant compete with G4 in the same market, especially one that small, because of G4's pricing/packaging power. Direct knows that, so you proabably wont see them hopping into any markets G4 already serves.

Just my 2cents on the situation
