Does anyone know why VX is sending an A320 SFO-SBD in a couple of hours? I checked on flightaware.com and found this...

Good find. Now that we know it's not G4 that is starting SBD service, perhaps VX is. Wouldn't that be interesting!

If this is the case, would VX be the only airline servicing SBD?

It would be not just interesting, but really weird! Way beyond their model, if I understand it correctly. But who knows??

Yes no other airlines fly into SBD.

I thought that too but it looks as though this is the second VX A320 to visit SBD in the past few days under this flight number.

on that basis SBD sounds like perfect WN port but not for short haul like to LAS, ie. medium haul.

Well considering the proximity to ONT I find it doubtful that anyone like WN would fly there.

yes but WN could use SBD as a way to get fees down at other LA region airports.

They could fly to places from SBD that they don't from other LA region ports.

Like where?? ONT has it pretty well covered along with LAX, SNA, and BUR.

I don't see that kind of demand out of SBD as the area (downtown) near the airport is in shambles since the Air Force left in the early '90s. Besides WN is a little too smart to open up a place like SBD and then over saturate their own market share. Not smart business. VX on the other hand could run occasional charters in and out of there with affiliations with the local Indian Casinos like San Manuel which is only about a 10 minute drive away. They built a whole new complex for San Manuel that now has a very nice Hotel added on to the "New" Casino.

Confused Last I checked fares are down. SWA regularly offers $39, $59 fares from across Los Angeles area airports.

Anyhow SBD is mere 20miles from ONT where SWA has a substantial operation. Cant see any point in them using SBD which services the same immediate region as ONT, but located in more desolate and lower income area. In not like SBD is some gold mine of a market on its own like SNA for instance.

I agree with all of this discussion re: SBD but I will repeat on this thread what I -- and others -- have reported on the many other threads currently active regarding Allegiant flying into the LA-area (now apparently it is officially LAX) -- something IS up at SBD!

The terminal area is definitely being readied for some sort of service; I would be floored if it turns out to be VX but I repeat: something is about to start there!

Could it possibly be Vision Air? SBD would seem like an airport they would fly too.

They are a small company based out of VGT, They operate a lot of charters with 737s and D328s but from time to time they have flown scheduled service from there north vegas hub to places like AZA using the D328 turboprop.

SBD said a year or two ago they had 3 or 4 carriers that had expressed at least some interest.

I know they have also sent some feelers out to Mexican carriers.

Vision has contracted lately.

They were planning to start flights at the old Castle Airport (KMER) but have quietly walked away from that plan.

I really hope so it would really do the city of San Bernardino some good. They could really benefit from some kind of small operation at the airport.

Try again. That plane already had WiFi before it went to SBD.
