I didn't seem to long ago that it was highly rumored that DL was not doing too hot in Kuwait and was planning on cutting the route soonest. The time frame from what I remember seemed to be some time next month so I guess we'll have to wait and see if it will in fact meet the Delta cleaver.
I haven't checked TravelNet in quite a while but for those that may keep track of trends, what's been the flight's general performace? And yes, I understand loads doesn't = yields but it's a fair statement to say that a flight constantly going at at 40-50% isn't necessarily doing as well as one going out at 80% (well minus some routes obviously). Also, what has the J booking been like?

DL is currently indicating that service to Kuwait has been "quite successful" in the first 100 days. A vague response for sure, but it does indicate that performance is meeting or beating expectations for a start up route. Generally, if a route is not performing as expected, there is no comment on the issue.
DXB and CAI are expanding as ATL-DXB has recently been upgraded to daily and the JFK-CAI route is being expanded to 6X weekly from 5X starting this summer. No indication if this is a seasonal bump or permanent.

I'd imagine the yields on ATL-KWI are fairly due to the limited competition on US-KWI flights (only UA's IAD-KWI and KU's JFK-KWI) and the fact that a good deal of this route is military traffic (which is generally high-yielding). This could make up for relatively low load factors.
IIRC UA's KWI route is among their most lucrative and it can be rather hit or miss load-wise as well. Not to say that DL's is as successful given the stronger military/political links from IAD.
I know ATL-DXB has been very successful for DL (recently became daily) and it will be interesting to see if this continues given that Dubai has been hit particularly hard by the economic crisis.

No they didn't. Its a.net rummor it will be gone in Feb. Looks like its still here to me.
What happened was ATL-KWI, for some reason, got pulled out of the feb timetable for a few days and everyone has been saying its getting cut. It will be staying around.

It seems that KWI has turned out to be a late-booking market. There was some early concern, but they waited it out and now it seems to be OK.

Is there any word on the LAD and SSG flights starting up? It's looking like they won't start...
The proper term is "on final" not "on finals" bud...

And a late booking market will normally be higher yielding -- no advance purchase discounts, more Y,B,M fares.

Just goes to show how rumors have a way of taking on a life of their own on this site.
There was never any announcement, just speculation on this website. If I recall correctly, some DL insider(s) were reading a bit too much between the lines and came to the conclusion that DL was dropping a route they had inaugurated less than a month earlier....
If things had really been that grim, I doubt DL would have inaugurated the route at all.

I do not believe any "DL insiders" came to this conclusion. Please check the thread where the rumor started.

A friend of mine who works at a travel agency told me that DL is doing well here in KWI !!
Even when I called DL local office to book my summer trip, I asked the agent how is DL doing, she told me it's doing good.

Well, nothing is yet loaded on Delta.net - the start date was to have been 16JUN, but so far nothing.

DL just posted listings on their career website for Station Managers at both locations on Feb 19 so they seem to be moving towards launch of service.

That was also one of the arguments when the thread about DL dropping KWI was brought up. Quite a few people mentioned that it may have been one of those types of routes where you kind of have to wait it out.

It is not my intent to call anybody out, but among the replies to the post you referenced (as well as some other DL route-oriented posts) you will find passages like this:
"It has been discussed that the plan is for it to be axed around February-March time frame (particularly by those in MTC and are in the know of a/c allocation)."
This is what I mean by "reading too much between the lines". Rumors are just part and parcel of the aviation industry I suppose (among many others).

That's very interesting - maybe LAD and SSG will launch after all. These positions will post some rather unique challenges to the successful candidates!
