Saw and worked on ACFT #413 today over at the MCO JetBlue Hangar, LiveTV 3 is installed. The interior and the airplane look nice, except for that monstrosity of a antennae on top of the fuselage. Comes back to CO MX for a weigh job and a MX Ck, then goes for a test hop, then waits for the STC. She is getting close to her debut with LiveTV 3. All the components fit in one overhead bin over row 19def. 80 channels, pretty sweet. Give me a window and a book.

Thanks for the heads up! Know the status of the FAA approval process? Does it look like 413 will enter service in March? It does look pretty sweet when I got to try it out a while back. Am curious how the monitors look like in F.

Is it any bigger than what DL/VX/B6/F9 use?

They looked the same as in coach, 10" monitors(diagonal), looked like 4" X 6". They still have some check outs to do, such as checking that the antennae tracks as they taxi tonight. It will be at the CO North Hangar tonight. It sounds like just a couple of days, then they will submit it for STC approval. Will try to remember to take some pictures, that would be nice.

How long before they start doing the work at CAL's hangars??
I've heard 4 airplanes, one of each 737-700, -800, -900/-900ER, and 757-300 will be done for the seperate STCs, then as each receives its' STC, CO MX is supposed to get in the act. Will be a lot like the AVOD Mods. Don't know if MCOMX will get in on the act, I'll have to check.

An STC is a Supplemental Type Certificate which is a certificate issued by the FAA that allows multiple aircraft modification of a certain type against its Type Certificate.
In the case of this installation, LiveTV is the entity that applied for the STC and is the one who will receive it. As a new design is created, a separate STC must be received for each aircraft type. After the first installation, functional and flight tests, and compliance inspection, the final paperwork package is submitted to the FAA and the STC is issued in a minimum of 30 days following FAA review. The FAA used to allow this aircraft to return to service immediately following a successful installation through a "field approval". However, they no longer allow this which leaves two choices. Either the aircraft sits until the STC is received (which I assume is the case here) or the aircraft is de-modified or the instl deactivated and the aircraft returned to service until the STC is received (similar to the 763 winglet mods), then the system can be reactivated or reinstalled. Once the STC is issued, then multiple aircraft can be modified at one time usually at any facility of the aircraft owners choice provided they have purchased the kit and data package from the STC holder. Also, after the subsequent aircraft are successfully modified, they no longer require any further FAA inspection of the instl and can return to service immediately thereafter.

Get her up and flying!!!! Have a 900 from IAH on Friday and it sure would be nice if we had TV for the 1:39 or so across the Gulf but doesn't sound like 413 will be out and using the TV's anytime soon if the STC takes 30 days or so.
Thanks for the pics CALTECH!

Here is a video I took at the Continental Airlines DO IV of the Live TV that will be in the coach seats. You can see the screen and the control pad on the armrest for the Live TV.
