SV purchased 22 A320 and will lease an additional 28 CFM56-5B-powered A320 aircraft. The airline is scheduled to receive its first airplane the third quarter of 2009, with deliveries continuing through late 2012. The order for A320 was originally announced at the 2008 Farnborough Air Show.
Finally SV is getting an Aircraft which suits them. A320s will replace their incompetent MD-90’s and will also relieve some of B777 which are used on thin European routes. B777 were used on the thin routes as they don’t have suitable smaller aircraft and their MD-90 does not have the legs to do the European and other such routes.

SV signs 10-year materials agreement with GE Aviation
Quote: Saudi Arabian Airlines signed (19-Feb-09) an exclusive 10-year materials agreement with GE Aviation Services for the airline’s entire fleet of 100 purchased and leased CFM56-5B* engines powering its Airbus A320 fleet.
Under the terms of the agreement, which is valued at approximately USD300 million, Saudi Arabian Airlines will exclusively use genuine CFM parts in the maintenance and overhaul of this fleet. |
