UAL's New Asia Service From IAD

If CAL can fly a B777 nonstop from Newark to HKG, why can't UAL fly a flight from IAD to HKG? There are plenty of polar routes. Smile I think flights from Dulles to Chek Lap Kok (?) nonstop would be very profitable.

Actually, there is a flight from IAD to HKG...it just has a brief stopover in LAX. Its flight number is Untied flight 1. It is part of the around the world flight serving LAX, HKG, DEL, LHR, and IAD.

A UA flight IAD-HKG with a "brief stopover" at LAX can hardly be considered an earth-shattering flight, as you have to change aircraft anyway. You might as well be flying from anywhere else in the US, and changing planes at LAX. DONG DONG DONG, you lose the game. But as stated earlier, thanks for playing...

IAD-NRT is flown by ANA (744). IAD-LAX-HKG on UA001 - doesn't it require an overnight stay in LAX aswell? I don't think it is feasible to have both JFK-HKG and IAD-HKG.

oops. Wow!

Anyway...I want to add that all legs on the around the world flight is done on the 747-400, and some parts do not require an aircraft change in another city.

Really...if you wanted to go from IAD to HKG, then why not hop on ACA to jfk, and take the flight from there.
