Hi Everyone!

Just wondering if anyone knows of the formalities or even a departure time for the inaugural V Australia flight from Sydney to Los Angeles which is due today. Ive checked on the Sydney Airport website and the airline doesnt appear on the International Departure Register yet. I would really like to get to the airport today and see it.

Thanks,

Jokestar

Well, I can't check the arrivals board for flights arriving at LAX on the 27th for several more hours yet, but their website shows it is supposed to depart at 15:00 Sydney time. I would expect a slight delay due to press and such but the plane should be there ready to go! I know their aircraft are still leaving Boeing Field, but much behind schedule due to the earlier strike I'm afraid...Best of luck...Can't wait to see the posted pics...

What has this done to fares thus far?

I don't track AUS flights much, has there big quite a reduction with the VAustralia addition?

V australia has fares

Y from $975 QF/Ua used to be $1800 - $2500
PE from $2499 QF is/was around $4999
J from $5999 Qf / UA were around $12999

so fares have come down quite a bit.

I hope Y fares come down a lot. Although I buy J tickets a lot, I also go on a friend's UA buddy passes and they currently run higher than most Y class tickets even though they are supposed to be based on a percentage of the full Y fare. So, if V Australia can lower the full Y fare, I'm all for it....I think the start of DL service will help lower that threshold as well.

Premium Economy has been on sale for as low as $1995 return for various dates in April.

ANstar is correct in saying that fares have come down..

PER/CHC/LAX might be better as would have PER/CHC & CHC/LAX to itself.

PER/CHC because people don't want to waste time flying to AKL to get to South Island & CHC/LAX as NZ used to operate with a 744 which was too big.

A 2 times a week service initially would work.

It was parked there from at least last Friday - at the northern end of the International Terminal, just past the Emirates Gate/Lounge. Nothing happening around it - just sitting looking pretty.

About to land! Welcome to Los Angeles V Australia!

Welcome To The New Delta- The World's Largest Airline
25 Lightsaber : Altitude of the A380? The A380 should be quite a bit higher due to its lower wing loading. With a 5kt difference, the A380 should land minutes behind
26 Jetfuel : Quite a show at LAX for Australia this morning Virgin Australia 777-300 landed at 09:38AM PST QF's A380 landed just behind at 09:49AM PST
27 Lightsaber : Thank you. From the inflight report, I thought it would be closer. Now when will QF operate a 2nd daily A380 on the route? Lightsaber
28 Apollo13 : What runway did V Austraila use and where will they park for gate use?
29 QANTAS747-438 : They will use the International Terminal to deplane and Terminal 3 to board. I think Gate 31? I forget its number.
30 Apollo13 : So I guess this means they will use the Northern Runways for takeoff since its terminal is near the 24's?
31 Hikarufree : Being not terribly knowledgeable in regards to inter-terminal transfers at LAX, will that make VA to VX connections rather cumbersome?
32 A300 : I am not very familiar with the process of terminal leases at LAX. Is there a reason for the three Virgin-branded airlines not to be next to each othe
33 LACA773 : That's a AS gate. I believe it's on the other side.
34 Asteriskceo : No. A shuttle brings them back to terminal 3. And the drop off location is right where the VX gates are.[Edited 2009-02-27 13:25:12]

36 Tayser : just looking at the loads in the KVS Availability tool and the loads (both ways) didn't look very pretty at all compared to QF or even UA.
37 ANstar : And not the end of the world given it was the innaugural.
38 Lightsaber : Do share. What are the details? e.g., are you looking at this week, a certain day in March, June, etc.? What classes? Y, Y+, or? Note: I'm not surpri
39 Jokestar : That would have been QF 11 because for some reason yesterday QF 93 YMML-KLAX was not operated by an A380. Neither was QF 73. I heard the callsign on
40 QFFlyer : That reason being that the A380 is not scheduled on Fridays. Mondays & Wednesdays only. Because the A380 is not scheduled on that route at all, apart

44 MHTripple7 : Just to clarify, KVS Availability tool shows the seats for sale, not seats available. There's a big difference because airlines sell far more tickets
45 Tayser : ah, thanks for the clarification. nevertheless, it illustrates that the planes are by no means full heading out.
46 COFanNYC : To be honest, it doesn't really illustrate anything conclusively. VA and QF could have identical load factors at this point. However, VA might think
47 Lightsaber : I need a translation. I assume these are the fare classes being offered? What is the difference between M5 and M9? Is the number the number of seats?
48 OOSLC : That is the amount of seats the airline can sell in each fare class. Looks like that QF flight is pretty sold out. Only 1 seat to sell in coach. Even
