AF are axing Orly-Valladolid but starting Orly-Barcelona, 3xMon-Fri,1xSat,2xSun on a Regional CRJ-100
Also SOU-CDG, operated by Airlinair, is being moved to Orly. This ones seems a strange decision since I would have expected the service to be connections orientated, and beyond French regional destinations Orly doesnt offer many of them. And BE connect many French regional airports to SOU anyway. The new timetable uses a ORY based plane and thus is not very good for day trips to Paris from the Southampton end

AF is facing a big drop on its Domestic traffic because of the global recession and the TGV competition. Several frequencies are cut on several routes including the "Navette" (shuttle) to TLS / BOD / MRS / NCE.
But AF doesn't want to give up its precious slots at ORY so has to use them ... hence those "new" flights.
As for ORY-BCN, I think it will be a very successful route and the CRJ will prove to be too small very soon especially if IB pulls out, as announced, from the route and will be replaced by Vueling-Click Air only.
AF inaugurated also recently a new route from ORY : BRN (Bern(e) / Switzerland) with 2 x Daily flights (weekdays). flights are operated by Airlinair for AF with ATR42
Considering the success of the ORY-LCY, AF is studying the possibility to launch more flights from ORY to European Business destinations such as GVA, LIN, FRA targeting O/D business demand and promoting the simple and easy to use ORLY WEST terminal. Moreover, ORY is much closer to downtown Paris than CDG.

I wanted to ask, if AF gives up these slots at ORY, who can use them? Primarily European carriers or would any of the US airlines go for them? Also, could AF, hypothetically, start ORY-HND since didn't AF get authority to do HND service?

Anyone who applies for them, European or US airlines.
DELTA who plans to open an ORY-JFK flight (already last summer 2008, but that was postponed) would use one of those AF slots.

They could. But AF will fly to HND from CDG, not ORY.

Is this finish a consequence of the automobile crisis? I know this flight is operating there due the demand of Renault workers in Valladolid. Any notice about axing flights to Vigo where Citroen has a factory?
Concerning Barcelona flights, must to say that is a great notice. Due the change of airline operating from BCN to ORY (Clickair instead Iberia) will be a lack of Business Class seats on this route as Easyjet nor Clickair has not this service.
Has anyone know if these flights will have "C" class or will operate as the Brit Air flights to LYS?
Regards,
Gerard
