A winter storm is predicted to impact CO's EWR operation late Sunday evening and most of Monday morning. CO has already cancelled many flights to and from EWR, so if you're travelling via EWR (or indeed JFK/LGA/HPN) tonight or tomorrow morning, you might want to check your flight is actually operating before leaving home.
EWR is on 'Red Alert' already, and experiencing 100+ minute arrival delays.
Is there anyone at or near EWR that can tell us what's going on please?

That must be almost a hurricane then. Can't see an airport being closed due to normal storms. AMS as example is almost always fully operational, storm or no storm. That's why modern airports have more runways in multiple directions.

A hurricane? In Newark? I don't think so. It's a heavy winter snow storm. 12-15 inches of snow predicted overnight - that's pretty heavy snow fall and I'm pretty sure even AMS would have trouble coping with that!
I didn't mention EWR being closed though...dunno where you got that from?

It isn't closed. They're still taking arrivals on a GDP. They'll probably alternate runways once they need to start plowing, which will suck for the AAR, but at least they'll be getting some people in.

I'm about 40 minute drive South of EWR near the Shore, it's snowing pretty good right now. This storm is coming from the South so it might not be snowing yet at EWR, this is going to be one of those Winter storms that the closer you are to to Shore the more snow you are going to get. Right Now predictions are for between 12-14 inches of snow at EWR, some forecasts are saying more. By 6AM there should be between 8-10 inches of snow on the ground.
Like I said I'm about a 45 minute drive South of EWR towards the Jersey shore and it's snowing pretty good right now, snow started about an hour ago. It's adding to the inch or so we got last night, if it's not snowing at EWR, the City or out on Long Island give it another 20-30 minutes. The snow started as a faint flurry but is really picking up now.

It happened on Friday (2/27) as well: many domestic flights into EWR were delayed due to high winds and ATC delays. Our flight from MIA (CO 44) left MIA 4 hours late - we missed our connection to TXL and had to take yesterdays flight instead. CO did a great job though - even though they didn't have to, they provided everyone with Hotel and Meal vouchers...

On Friday night, my IAD-JFK flight was delayed just over an hour and several passengers were trying to catch the Qatar flight and had connections onward to India...Our aircraft pulled up to the gate around 10:20, so I wonder if they made their QR flight...Doubtful.

I'm on a 21st floor looking down 7th ave, and the Broadway district in NYC, I've been watching the visibility close in, still can see the better part of a mile, wind is picking up. But no snow here, and very light rain. So far!
ps I don't fly out until the weekend, thank goodness.

It's been snowing in Lower Manhattan a good 45 minutes or so now, it's not sticking on the streets or sidewalks, but on colder surfaces (parked cars) it's starting to accumulate already.
So far it doesn't look like JetBlue's canceling that much at JFK - just looked at JFK-FLL for tomorrow and the whole schedule still shows as projected on time. The 0759 to LAS is scrubbed, though. The 0600 EWR-FLL is already CXLed, though, as is the 1115 EWR-MCO (althought the 0700 is still a "go".) The 0600 LGA-FLL is also cancelled.
Delta's got a lot of cancellations out of all the airports for the morning already.
Do wish more airlines had their websites set up like JetBlue's, where you can put in a city pair and see all the flights' status at the same time instead of having to click one at a time.

Most NY-DC flights canceled from all airport pairings.
This Delta Connection flight, which is typically delayed, had a bad time for passengers? I guess they have been stuck on the CRJ for 7 hrs? They must be terrible for a scheduled 1:40 flight on a commuter jet,
Heres what it looks like:
Scheduled IAD-JFK 4:20-6pm
IAD-PHL (divert) 4:30-6:15---was it a weather divert? long time in the air.
Still holding at PHL, listed as delayed, keeps being pushed back
JFK is a sack of snow. Airplanes are stuck on taxiways, a JetBlue is stuck on a taxiway and waiting for a "follow me" truck because they can't see the lights under the snow, the only truck that could reach them is a snowplow and all snowplows are trying to clear 4L which is now closed with 2 aircraft holding for takeoff at the stop line.
Gonna be a long night...and day. They just opened 4L and the snow removal crew immediately closed it again.

Here in the Baltimore DC area we woke up with about 9 inches of snow thus far and it's still coming down at a good rate. Plows have been up all night clearing streets, but it's snowing so hard that it just gets covered up again quickly.
I'm wondering how the DC area airports are doing right now. Temps are around 21 degrees F so I'm sure there must be de-icing delays galore. Not a good day to be travelling in the Northeast!

Unfortunately EWR has two main runways that run parallel to each other and a smaller one in a different direction. High winds is a major problem at EWR. I live 25 miles away from EWR to the North West. There is about 10 inches of light powdery snow and lots of wind right now.

Just got to my office on 19th and Penn in DC and it's a real mess. The snow is still coming down hard. I usually see lots of planes on approach to Reagan on my way in, but didn't see any today. Visibility is low, I'm assuming Reagan is either closed for snow removal or heavily delayed. How's JFK doing right now?

As far as the rest of the Northeast goes, I'm in PVD today. We were meant to work flight 234
PVD-PHL-DEN-LAX. As far as our computer shows the flight is canceled all the way to DEN. Instead we will deadhead to LAX via our 1335 scheduled flight to MDW. However at 10am there is still no airport activity, (my room at the hotel faces the airport). We'll see if it opens soon or if I am re-scheduled.

I guess it would be a good day for spotters in PIT, CLE, etc today, with several diverted flights.
As for the snow fall, yeah it looks like New Jersey is going to get hammered by this storm, from Philly (Camden, Cherry Hill) up to Newark and NYC. I am about 35 minutes northwest from PHL, and it's coming down heavily here. It's not quite a white-out, but it is heavy.
Is anyone experiencing white-out or thunder snow with this?
Do not bring stranger girt into your room. The stranger girt is dangerous, it will hurt your life.
: Actually last night I was driving to run an errand and there was white out conditions and blowing snow. This morning's commute into DC from the Northe
: Had a friend ring me from EWR, been at the airport since 0600 trying to fly down to MCO for some warmth. No flights leaving with CO at the moment, coul
: Hopefully your friend is on CO192 - that's operating 3 hours late and is boarding currently. It also has 25 empty seats....
: Just sent a text to me, he is going flying.
