Boeing eyes 757,767 cargo conversions - Flight
LONDON, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Boeing Airplane Services (BAS) (NYSE:BA - news) plans to launch 757 and 767 freighter conversion programmes by end-1999, as part of plans to attack the cargo conversion market, Flight International reported in its latest issue.

Boeing estimates the conversion market could be worth $15 billion over the next 20 years, the magazine said.

The plans include a 757-200 SF(special freighter) and a 767-200 SF, with the 757 likely to be launched first, while some customers may also be offered new build freighters , Flight added.

International express carrier DHL [DHL.CN] is seen as the possible launch customer for the 757 freighter, it said.

UPS already has new versions of the 757-200pf and 767-300erf they have had the 757'd since 1987 and the 767 since 1995 this is nothing really new except Boeing doing the conversions of used 75 and 76's. DHL, Airborne and Emery are all going to used 767 to replace aging 72 and DC-8 fleets

DHL is going to receive 40-45 757Fs. I believe that most of these are still in service with British Airways and are to be sold to Boeing some time soon where they will be converted. These 75s will be used in Europe and Africa to replace the 72s in service, probably in about two years time.

Actually Boeing is smart. They made good money on the 74 and 72 conversion. Alot of cargo companies can't afford new aircraft (DHL,TNT,Airborne, BAX,and Emery) so this fill the niche for these and other carriers who purchase 2nd hand airliners. Boeing will make nice money off this.
