I frequently go to SFO to take pictures but not too sure as to when the best time to go is. When do most of the 747's, and other heavies take off (not arrive). Thanks

A lot of UA and Star Alliance departures are at around 11:30pm to 1pm.

It depends. Some leave late in the morning and others in the late afternoon. Most European bound heavies leave around 4-5 P.M. Asia bound heavies leave either really late at night (midnight) or in the late morning (morning flights are Korean, ANA, JAL, etc)...But some leave in between like around 1 or 2...so you may see them at any given time during the day.

In terms of widebody jets on international flights, UA has departures from mid-morning all the way to early evening. Flights from Asian airlines usually leave early afternoon or the middle of the night, and flights from European airlines usually leave late afternoon-early evening.
