Hi all,

I found this video on youtube of the NW 744 at MSP.

It appears that NW have installed the heath techna pivot bins the same as Qantas
are using in their upper deck. Can anybody confirm if all NW 744s/DL 744s now
have these new bins.

PS - does anybody know how to embed the video?

I believe all 744s were to get new bins on the upper deck. They should be completed by now, the project was started a while back.

The bins were updated in WBC only when WBC was updated awhile back. NW also installed modern bins in the DC-10-30 in WBC only when those aircraft were refitted in the late 90s/early 00s.

Does this mean it was done on both decks or only on the upper deck?

Do all the 744s have new bins on the upperdeck refitted, I have never noticed lol, so they all look the same as the 744ER on the upper deck?

There was another video from the same guy, on the same plane showing the lower deck WBC cabin. And it appeared that it still had the old bins.

It was only done on the upper deck to increase storage space for carry on luggage.

Sorry Jonas, i know this isn't going to sound obvious but he's talking about Qantas...and the 744ER. They're the only PAX carrier to use it (though just a handful of regular PAX 744s ordered post this period also have it. See China Airlines)

And the Answer to the Question is YES, they do. And they do on Northwest too now btw. It would appear that Heath Techna is the OEM manufacturer of these for boeing? Boeing's own 744 upgrade kit on its own website has a different style of bin. See Air NZ or Singapore for examples.

I took this on the upper deck of NW001 on December 30, 2008 shortly before takeoff, when the bins were mostly still open.

They hold quite a bit of stuff - not any of the large roller carry-ons, but I have a large soft-sided shoulder bag that easily fit. From my understanding, it would not have fit in the old bins.

Not quite when they put the new WBC on the 744's, when I flew on a 744 back in July 2008, the bins were the old style, I couldn't even fit my small roller bag on the upper deck, had to put it on the main deck. There are a few pictures of the old bins in my TR http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/trip_reports/read.main/131016

There we no "updates" done to any of the overhads on the 744, at least not in the last 11
years. These were the same overheads that have been on there for ages

The upper deck of the 744 was definitely updated to 777-style bins....

Lol sorry I wasn't very clear I was asking if all the QF 744 have the new bins on the upperdeck, and if the NW ones had the new ones on the lower deck. All is good I got my answer!

Whilst it would be nice if DL refitted the NW 744s with the new bins I really don't think its such a big deal on the lower deck but they certainly need new wall laminates!!

That interrior looks clean and well maintained but not modern nor stylish, time for an refresh, curtains, carpets, seat covers (if there isn't going to be new seats that is) and wall coverings, I suprised these minor things won't be done during the repaint wouldn't take to long would it?
