I'm pretty sure I saw a DL 752 taking off in STL at about 1130 local yesterday (3/7). It was not in revenue service (all the revenue flights operated with their usual, smaller equipment), but it may have been a military charter; we had a bunch of troops come home this weekend. Was I seeing things, or did I actually see one?

It was a diversion of the Saturday service between LGA and HDN (Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden, which serve Steamboat Springs, CO)

It looks like it flew to DEN instead of HDN.

You were not seeing things, and in fact it was in revenue service. It was operating DL 1617, which is seasonal Saturday-only LGA-HDN (Yampa Valley/Steamboat Springs) service, and diverted to STL. I don't know the reason for the diversion, but I caught it arriving at STL a little after 9:30 Saturday morning. Here's the flightaware as well: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL1617

Bad weather in HDN? This whole flight is interesting. Nevertheless, thanks for figuring it out for me.

Not a diversion. It was a planned stop. For fuel reasons in my estimate. We got the call to have ARFF standing by for them for a "hot fuel".

Interesting. Wish I had been there to see it. On a related note, did anyone see any interesting planes there for the Missouri Valley Conference Tourney? I imagine that a lot of the teams took buses, but a few may have flown.

Right you are, I didn't look closely enough at the flightaware info. It clearly shows that LGA-STL was operated as scheduled, the diversion was from HDN to DEN. The page also shows, however, that the flight spent 100 minutes or so on the ground in STL...is that right? Was it held on ground delay at STL due to conditions at HDN?

If you saw it arriving around 9:30, that's right, as it definitely left about 11:15-11:30.

Valid point, let me state that another way. I'm not questioning the times on flightaware, but rather wondering if that was the planned duration of the stop (I would imagine not if it was just for fuel) or if other circumstances caused the flight to visit STL for a bit longer than expected.

This flight was supposed to be a non-stop LGA to HDN.
However, the B757 A/C in question had an inop center tank fuel gauge.
So they consider that tank inop. (I guess HDN didn't have the personel for an inop gauge)
Thats when they decided to drop into STL for fuel.
They arrived STL at 951am
Once they got to STL there was an additional delay fueling the A/C.
They left STL at 1102am.

While enroute, the crew and dispatch were discussing the HDN weather.
Since it kept fluctuating up and down in visibility, it was then decided to divert to DEN
Just before touchdown in DEN they cancelled the flight due to crew time issues.
