Chinese President Jiang Zemin today arrived in Santiago, Chile from Beijing.
Does anyone know if his plane (probably Air China 744 B-2447) have to make a refueling stop, and if so where? Was it in the US? It is much too far to fly nonstop PEK-SCL, and most the major airfields along the route that can handle a 744 are in the US.
If his plane stopped in the US, hopefully he did not deplane during refueling? I don't think he would due to the spy plane incident?
I know when Taiwan President Chen visited Latin America, he had to make a refueling stop at LAX, and China made a big deal of it, because they considered it an official state visit (?!)

I did not see any Air China 744 at LAX on 4 or 5 April, at least not during the day. It seems more likely that they would stop in Thaiti or perhaps Guam. They are more in the flight path from SCL to PEK than LAX. The777Man
