Will the other Star Alliance carriers-Air Canada, United, and Continental eventually move into the US Airways La Guardia terminal? The terminal seems dormant at times. Moving those three carriers into the terminal would make connections so much easier. Just my two cents.

LGA is an O&D airport. The only carriers I could see having significant numbers of connecting passengers are US and AA, and maybe DL. So there's really no justification for anyone moving in with US.
I could, on the other hand, see CO moving in with UA in Concourse C of the Main Terminal, and perhaps AC too. But remember that those concourses are due to be replaced in the near future anyway. Once they are, there might be a link from there to the US terminal.

Yes LGA is an O&D airport but United, USAirways, and Air Canada codeshare flights out of LGA. It would be convenient if they all operated out of the US Airways terminal at La Guardia.

I've never used LGA. Only JFK and EWR to access New York City. I've looked at some terminal maps on the website, but it doesn't really tell the story. Does each airline at LGA have their own terminal, kind of like JFK? Or is it more like LAX where several airlines share a terminal? I'm just curious as to where WN will fit in when they arrive.
Cheers!

Quoting United777ORD (Reply 2): United, USAirways, and Air Canada codeshare flights out of LGA.
Doesn't mean that there are connections between those carriers. Why would you connect at LGA when you could connect at PHL, ORD, IAD, PIT or YYZ? All of those airports offer more possible destinations than LGA. The number of markets that are served to LGA exclusively is extremely small.

There are four terminals at LGA. The Marine Air Terminal is used by DL for its shuttle services and by a few other flights to specific destinations like MDW. The USAirways terminal is for US, and DL and NW share another terminal. Everyone else is in the Main Terminal, and that's probably where WN will end up.

I flew CO to LGA in December, 2008, the first time I'd been at the airport in like 20yrs. I was shocked at its condition. Even cramped and (before the economic downturn) overcrowded SAN has instituted a terminal modernization plan. Any plans to modernize LGA?
Yes. They're planning to replace the Main Terminal with a new one, with the terminal itself to be built on the site of the hangars between the Main Terminal and the US terminal, and the concourses where the Main Terminal is now.
There's also a new control tower coming (which, unfortunately, will mean the demolition of the old one).

Last week, I flew DCA-LGA-PHL with US and AWI. I enjoyed LGA and I liked the viewing opportunities. However, it took almost 40 minutes from pushback to rotation due to the queue length for departure.

Why would you connect at LGA? Because it's cheaper. Simple. And it often is--I've bought flights like BOS-LGA on US, LGA-IAD on UA before since they were far cheaper than any other BOS-WAS route. I've also seen people coming off AC flights connecting onward on both US and UA, presumably because the flight they found via that routing was cheaper than other options (and because US has plenty of destinations to offer from LGA).
But . . . why wouldn't AC and UA (and eventually CO) move in? Simple--if they moved into the US Airways terminal, they'd free up a whole bunch of gates in the Main Terminal--gates that WN, B6, or someone else would no doubt quickly fill up, offering new competition. (Whether these newly efficiency-created gates could find corresponding takeoff slots is another matter, but at least during some times of day there is capacity for additional flights to be added.)

One of the issues would be the RON factor. There is not enough gates to handle all of these airlines in the US terminal. Remote spots might help, but that space is also limited.
Before living in NYC I made many connections at LGA using *A carriers
