According to a thread here CX are considering Tehran, Iran as a prospective future addition to their network, is there a market for them, which segment do they plan on catering to? would be great to have them there

Chris you will have no problem. I am English and have been to Iran twice. Tehran is surrounded by beautiful scenery (mountains and lakes) although it can get really cold.
Just dress appropriately - the Iranians are very welcoming people, and love to show people around their beautiful country. Plus it is not as fundamentalist as people think (the population is young, and change is in the air).
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Dont know about the exact prospects about CX service to Tehran, however one needs to consider that Iran Air has operated both to Beijing and Tokyo for years.
In addition Japan has had a sort of immigration problem with its large Iranian community.
I guess Iran could provide a good amount of business traffic and cargo for CX considering most of the world outside of the US and western Europe do not see Iran as a great enemy.

Apparently, Iran has a lot of rich people with a lot of money, and that is what is attracting Cathay, but it will be a specialised target group. It is only a consideration at this stage, but the planning department are much more excited about the prospects of Bangalore, and Riyadh at the moment.
Tehran is a bit like Chicago. It is being considered, but not where the planning department are putting their resources at the moment, I believe.
