How Many CO 733s Have Activated IFE?

Hi All,

How many of CO's 737-300s have activated IFE? SeatGuru says that "only a portion" of the aircraft have the overhead monitors. Also, when the de-activate the overhead monitors, does that de-activate the in-seat audio system as well?

In addition, when the planes are retired, could you see another carrier interested in picking them up, or do they have enough cycles where it would be better just to scrap them?

I couldn't tell you offhand, but if you check pda.continental.com before your flight, it'll probably tell you the a/c # and whether it offers IFE or not...

How many 733's are left in the CO fleet.... I haven't been on one in quite some time. IAH-DFW used to be a 733 market but the last couple times I have gone its been on a 735.

I haven't been on many 733s or 735s -- but recently it seems like I've gotten a lot of them, especially inter-hub (CLE-EWR/EWR-CLE and CLE-IAH/IAH-CLE, which makes sense). I've never seen a 733 or 735 with IFE.

I flew LAX-SFO in November '97 on a CO 737-300, it had come in to LAX from CLE and had the IFE over the aisle as AA and DL have on their 757-200s. You didn't need headphones as it was played over the cabin, showed sitcoms and Spice Girl videos.

Btw..

CO still has about 23 737-300s in the fleet, however they will all be retired within a year.

37 737-500s are staying.

The ONLY 300's that have the video are those with winglets. The non-winglet 737-300's do not have video.

Thanks for the info! For some reason I thought I heard that CO had de-activated the system in all of their 733s, but I guess I'm wrong!

On a somewhat-related note, why do none of the 735s have IFE? Was CO's original intention to only fly them on short routes, and wanted to save weight? Or, was it not even an option (which I doubt)? I've seen the planes on both shorter (EWR-BOS) and longer (EWR-IAH) routes.

I read somewhere that the IFE equipped 733s almost always fly BOS-IAH, since it's a kind of long stage.

I have flown the 733 with IFE on IAH-SJC/SJC-IAH (Summer '05) as well as on DFW-EWR (Nov '08).

I suppose the rotate them pretty well through the longer 733 stages in the system. With gas prices lower, will the 733s/735s stay any longer now or are they still being retired quickly?

I've flown on 9V-SPK.

They used to. A 735 flight I took back around '96/'97 between CLE and MSY had seat back screens. I believe you could play games on them.

I think America West Airlines had those TV's in your seat. I might be wrong. As a kid, we did PHX-DSM on a 737 and it had TV's in seats.
