Hey Guys:

I recently saw a picture of the new AA 737-823, and I would like to know if it will have different First/Business and Economy class seats then the older 738's in the fleet. I ask this because AA recently started upgrading their 757s with the new Recaro style seats and I figured maybe these new birds might get them as well? If any AA employee has any interior shots please post them here!

Heres the new polished bird!

Wow this AA738 looks shiny new !  Smile

American always had the Recaro style seats on the 737-800, the refurbishing of the cabin interiors to dark blue seats started in 1999, just after the first 738 and first 777 were delivered, exactly ten years ago. So I don't see any change compared to the 738's currently in service with AA. The 757's, the first of which was delivered already in 1989, ten years before, did have the older interiors, brown leather seats in F and light blue/gray in Y, most of the 757's delivered to AA since then had the older interiors. The 757's do see cabin interior changes, but the 737's do not.
No 738 at AA has ever been delivered with brown leather seats in F Cabin.

Do you think they'll stick with the older style monitors over the aisle to keep the fleet similar or will they switch to the flip-down screens?

Those are recaro seats? I thought recaro made only the new economy class seats as pictured in this TR

The new 738s will have over the seat drop down screens for IFE. They will also have new F seats wich are similar to the ones now but will have a new tray table arrangement and some other small changes. Coach will feature a new articulating seat and a small storage area will be removed from the rear and more seats will be added. I believe it will be ten more seats, not sure though. I know an extra flight attendant is being added due to the extra passengers.
...thats all I can remember.

I think this aircraft is the first AA 737-800 without the eyebrow windows.

Along with new drop down LCD screens, first and coach seats the new 737's will have different overhead bin doors. These doors will allow more storage space in the overhead bins. Eventually AA will convert the older 737's to the new configuration.

Hmmm... haven't read anything about new seats in F or Y on the 738s. Interesting. I'm anxious to hear more. As has been posted, the new birds will have LCD monitors that drop down from the OHBs. The a/c will also have the digital Panasonic eFX system currently installed on the 763s. In addition, 12 seats are being added to coach, bringing the new capacity to 16F/144Y. As was mentioned above, two cart compartments/stowage areas aft of the rear lavs have been removed to allow more room for the additional seats.

On the new 75L a/c, or TATL 757s, the Y seats are Weber. I haven't heard yet what seats have been chosen for the domestic 757 makeover. The Weber seats on the 75L are the articulating type. If these seats end up on all 757s, and the 738s, that would be pretty nice.

I've seen pictures of the new first class seats. They look preety nice, much more blue than the current ones. Like I mentioned before the plan is to retrofit the older 737's with the new interior. As we all know having two sub fleets for one aircraft gets expensive after a while.

I believe the plan is to out the same Weber slim line seats on the domestic 757 fleet. Then you will have commonality with the new 737 fleet.

I am guessing they are the Weber 5751, the same model of slimline seats that DL uses.

I knew you'd know!  Smile And I was hoping you'd chime in. Any news on the domestic 757s? It seems like that project is just getting further and further behind. Wasn't the prototype due in October initially?

Have not heard how the 757 domestic program is going. The prototype was supposed to have been finished Oct 08. However that did not happen. Ironically the program was supposed to start full swing this month. Guess I'll have to ask around to see what's up.

All I know is sooner the better. The other day I worked on a 757 whose interior was just trashed with a capital T. Kind of embarrassing when you think about it.

I decided to check out M&E's section on Jetnet and strangely the 757 domestic project has disappeared from both the Long Range Mod Schedule and the Major Projects Executive Summary. That makes me very worried... have they scrapped the plan, or delayed it indefinitely? That is so not good if that's the case.
