Boy, this isn't EK's week, huh?

- Two drug busts at JNB
- Tail strike at MEL
- And now, apparently a LGW bomb threat

Of note: I do not believe EK is any less safe or less outstanding of an airline. Just commenting on an interesting week they've had. Smile

DingDong, honey, please answer the doorbell!

CNN has a small piece about it:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe.../22/uk.gatwick.airliner/index.html

"A spokesman for Emirates said a passenger had discovered a note implying a security threat 10 minutes before flight EK 011 landed."

Quoting Speedmarque (Reply 2):

It was B772, A6-EMK. Interesting to note this flight (and all LGW flights) is usually operated by a B77W.

Doesn't seem to be LGW's day today either! This EK bomb scare, Monarch A300 couldn't retract gear so had to return, BA flight reported to have "impacted something" and a VS 747 G-VXLG had a single engine failure and has had to return!

I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

The morning flight has been a 777-200 all Winter, and will continue to be so through the Summer. The evening flight has only just switched to 77W operation.

Italian news reports "one arrested", but it's not stated in the article if it's the note author.

Sorry link is in italian because yes, we also report news better.

Edit : the arrested person is a uk 24 years old citizen, not specified if he was onboard, but this would be my guess.

 checkmark

None of this reflects poorly on the airline, per se. But the poor sods are really having a rough week, aren't they?

Do you think this makes them somewhat more cautious to ensure nothing else happens: perhaps slightly tighter safety/security processes in a sly memo to all staff?

Minor correction; an ex crew member - I doubt he'll find alternative airline employment anytime soon either! What an utterly stupid thing to do  crazy

Certainly not in the airline industry at any rate, I'm sure word gets around quickly to prospective employers  Wink

Maybe was late for work and didn't want the plane to leave without him.  Smile He will have lots of time to consider his actions now and whether it may have been better to call in sick that day instead. :P Not very bright regardless.
