First B747 Sporting Star Alliance Livery
Posted March 24, 2009
Our first B747 to wear Star Alliance colors (joining one B767 and one B777) left the paint shop this weekend, and made its first revenue flight since repainting, as UA895 from ORD to HKG on Sunday.
As for our United livery, we have repainted 181 of the 362 airplanes that will comprise our fleet once the B737 retirement program is completed.
That includes 42 of 56 A320s that were Ted aircraft, with the remaining planes scheduled to be completed this summer, says Steve Hastings, manager-Aircraft Appearance.
Nineteen B747s have been repainted in the new livery, with the remaining seven B747s to be completed by September.
We continue to closely monitor and, when necessary, take steps to refinish the exteriors of our fleet, Steve says. Line Maintenance, Airframe Maintenance and our vendors are working together to improve the appearance of our planes
Quoting N104UA (Thread starter): does anyone know that if it was just painted or got a reconfig
It is now Aircraft number 8421, it is in new config. 81 = old config, 84 = new config

I thought UA had many, many more aircraft in Star colors than one 777, a 767, and now a 747. I thought members were required to have a certain percentage of their fleet in the Star livery, and as a founding member, wouldn't UA have a lot? And I guess I've been imagining all these years that I've seen photos of UA 747s in Star colors....

If any UA peeps can tell me when this baby is doing a LAX run (NRT-LAX or SYD-LAX) I'd appreciate it much! I can always get word once it's on the ground (and make it to LAX for static and take-off shots) but it's the arrivals that's tough to get.
Thanks again,

Nope, just N218UA.
Love B747s with the Star Alliance livery. Too bad Lufthansa's D-ABTH is now in the normal livery.

Are they holding onto 2 more 744s then planned?
The have not made a final decision they were holding onto 2 to run flights for Air Pacific, and with the low oil prices they might keep them
