Just noticed on that site Aria should fly two Il-62 soon. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Aria-...sok=&sort=&prev_id=&next_id=NEXTID
It's a great new but does someone know on wich route they'll be operated?
Though Aria has only domestic flights and Il-62 is a long haul aircraft more expensive to fly than a Tu-154 or Yak-42. (and I think a lot of them are avaible on second hand market)
I think it's the first time an Iranian airlines will operate an Il-62.
More informations are welcome.
Thanks.

I'd also love to hear more information on this; I'm going to try again to get an Iranian visa... probably in vain, but for the range of aircraft I could potentially fly on it's more than worth it!

Quoting Viasa (Reply 2): Fars Air Qeshm will get two Lockheed Tristar...
What?!!!
Iran just gets more and more interesting for the enthusiast. I'd love to go back there but not sure I'll get a visa. I only went last time because it was a business trip.
When I read about the IL-62s I immediately e-mailed one of my friends in Iran and have put another Iran trip above all else for this year. Fingers crossed.

Ditto, sod everything else - Iran has become a bit like a hypermarket; you can bag everything in one visit!
As far as I've found out, applying for a transit visa is much more likely to get you accepted than applying for a tourist visa. It's only five days, costs about the same, but there don't seem to be any restrictions apart from the length of stay or what you can do during the time - I'm going to give this a try.

What problems getting visas are you expecting. Ive never had a problem getting a tourist visa. Just go to one of the Iran visa websites and they organise it for you. Different nationalities tend to get given different lengths of stay, ie Brits get 21 days usually, but you can get extensions once there and they preffer US citizens to have a prebooked itinerary.

According to an Iranian spotter, ARIA has now 3 IL-62 and flies one of them on domestic routes. Queshm flies the Tristar to Syria.
Here is what he wrote me in his two mails :
1 - at present one of 3 Aria Air' Il-62s is active and operate for passenger flights. Qeshm Air operate her L-1011 as well but It think most of her flights are Int'l flights to Syria I think.
2 - Il-62 flies to Mashad from Mehrabad maybe 2-3 times in the week and return to Tehran most of times at night or late evening. Also I heard she flies from Mashad to Bandar Abbas too.

I hear that the Fars Air Qeshm L1011 was operating to Sri Lanka over the Nauruz period, and that the Aria Air IL-62s were grounded due to 'paperwork issues'. I am awaiting an update from a friend in Tehran so hopefully it will be along the lines of what you heard.

Good news from Iran - they are now flying! My friend in Iran pretty much confirmed what Sibille said - they are flying from Tehran to Mashad and Bandar Abbas.

Terrific news, time to start planning a trip to Iran ASAP! I'll just have to keep everything crossed that they give me some form of visa this time

If you have a Spanish passport or most passports bar UK/US then you can now get a 14 day tourist visa on arrival at IKA/THR/MHD/SYZ/TBZ/ISF for €50 unless you had been refused a visa in the past. A UK passport holder, someone arriving by surface transport or someone refused before must arrange the visa beforehand preferably through an online travel agent based in Iran (another €50) which is collected at the Iranian embassy/consulate you specify, which takes between two weeks and a month to organise.

I flew on one with Cubana a couple of years ago and it ranked up there with the B707 for me. I really do hope I get a visa so I can experience one (or more) of these beauties again. And the B707 again, of course

We´re on our way, next month !
We were/ are crossing our fingers for the IL-62 to fly, in addition to the 707, 727, A300B2/4 and Tupolevs, if a L-1011 appears as well it´s nearly to good to be true..

I had the pleasure of flying on an IL-62M last September. It was quite an experience. It was up there with my Concorde and Il-86 trips. I do want to try a Tu-134 sometime soon.

Quoting Eirik (Reply 19): If not, what would be the easiest way to make a reservation on Fars AQ ?
Fars Air Qeshm has a website with a booking engine in English, but I guess a lot of their flights are charters and can only be booked in Iran.
Many Saha Air and Aria Air flights are the same. Saha doesn't have a website and the Aria one always seems to be down.
Last time I was there we just walked up to the ticket desks in THR airport and bought tickets for the next day. However, I beleive flights busy or full nowadays and sometimes you might not get the flights you want.
