Ia Orana all !

This week is the last one Air France will send its Airbus A340-300 fleet to LAX and on to PPT.
From April 2nd the first ever scheduled Boeing 777-200ER will land in Papeete.

Tahiti saw 777 before, particularly a BA aircraft carrying HRH Queen Elizabeth II and a ANZ machine that was substituted to the regular 767.

Air France will send the 777-200ER to PPT as AF 674 and will return as AF 673. All flights will operate with 4P, 49J and 211Y seats.

All PPT based cabin crew have received the training course conversion to the 777 in CDG and we are all ready to fly on this new type of aircraft for the majority of us.

I will personally be working the first flight to PPT on the 2nd with a landing on the 3rd of April 2009.

Happy Flying to PPT on the 777 !

Good luck w/ the 777!

When was the 747 downgraded? When I was in PPT during August 2006, the 747 was still there!

While the 13 P seats on the B744 which served the route previously were probably too much, AF should be able to fill those 4 P seats on the B772ER and I see that next week's flights are pretty much fully booked in P, with the exception of the April 3 departure from LAX.

What will be the service difference between P and J on these trips? My main criticism of the AF Premiere is that, apart from the seat, there is not enough of a difference between both premium classes. On the CDG SIN routes, P often has exactly the same menu as J, but with one extra choice for each meal. What will the situation be on LAX PPT LAX? Given the schedule of the LAX PPT sector, there may not be much service needed at all.

Ia Orana HB-IWC !

La Première is working quite well on our route indeed, 13 seats was way too much and in those days we were told that on average we had 3 full fare pax per fligh which is perfect for the 4 seats we are going to have on the 772ER.
Concerning the difference between P and J I know that the 3 La Première starters will be completely different from the J ones. During our La Première training course we were shown every single dish that will be offered on the PPT-LAX and the hot meals will be different but the plat du jour which will be the same... I think...

I just checked the meal services on the LAX-PPT in La Première and It will be Drinks of choice, full dinner service, duty free sales and before arrival in PPT hot breakfast with choice of either eggs or french toast / pancakes, fresh fruit salad, danish and yogurt.

I will give you more details about the service and menus when I get back next week.

I can also tell you that concerning the maintenance of the 777 in PPT it will be done by 3 Air Tahiti Nui mechanics that were sent to Paris CDG at Air France Industries for proper training on this new type of aircraft for them.

Happy Flying

Ia Orana All !!!

Tomorrow is the big day for us PPT crew.
We will prepare for the "inaugural" flight to PPT with a 777.
Air France Tahiti has prepared a nice welcoming party for the plane, the customers and the crew of AF 674.
The medias will be there, fire brigade will greet the aircraft and will take it to the parking spot, flowers will be offered to every passengers on board, a 17 meter long lei is being made for the airplane and will be attached thru the flightdeck and a live tahitian music group will serenade the customers while disembarking...
Big first for Air France and for Tahiti as this is the first scheduled flght with a 777 to PPT.

See you on friday in Tahiti !

Happy Flying,

AF Cabin Crew

Why is AF replacing the A343 with the B772ER?

Quoting CRJ900 (Reply 5):
Why is AF replacing the A343 with the B772ER?

For a better aircraft utilization and organizations, AF wanted an all B777 service on the CDG-LAX-LAX route.

Using the A343 on LAX-PPT-LAX obliged AF to operate a weekly frequency (on Thursday) on CDG-LAX-CDG with the Airbus iso the B772ER, then the a/c was operating 3 LAX-PPT-LAX before returning to CDG.

Using the B777 all the way to PPT is much more simple for AF, and easier to face potential technical problems.

Moreover, the demand in "P" Class is strong on CDG-LAX-CDG, and there is also potential "P" market on the LAX-PPT-LAX leg.

It's nice to see some diversity at PPT, however this equipment change is definitely not an improvement in terms of passenger comfort, especially in the Y cabin. I believe AF is planning to equip the 772 with a 3-4-3 configuration, right ?

I love the quietness and comfort of the 343's 2-3-2 configuration, especially on such a long flight as CDG-LAX-PPT. My father who often flies this route hates the LAX-CDG leg with a passion when he ends up being on a 777.

Please take some pics of the ceremony and post them here ! You must be excited to work on a new plane. Enjoy !

AF B772ER have a 3-3-3 config in Y.

A A343 config in Y is 2-4-2

Quite surprising that you claim to be an "AOM lover", as AOM used to have a cramped 3-4-3 in Y in their old DC-10 ...  Wink

Ouch, 2-4-2 on the A340, my bad !

As for the 777, isn't AF planning to "upgrade" the 772 with a 3-4-3 configuration, just like the 77W ?

About my nickname hehe, it's an "erreur de jeunesse". I lacked inspiration when I joined a.net almost 8 years ago...but I'll always remain thankful to AOM for enabling me to fly on a DC-10, even if the thing was so cramped !
