Saw on HIA's website for the month of January and February combined. www.flyhia.com/news
I'm trying to remember what was lost and what we gained seat/aircraft wise.
US- Lost - 3x LGA (Saabs and B1900's) 2x PIT (Dash-8)
Gained - 3rd daily to BOS (Dash-8), and upped CLT to CRJ in afternoon from the Dash-8 in the late morning.
UA- No major changes that I can remember , 733/735's are being replaced with A319/320. Lots of cancelled ORD flight this winter.
NW-No DC-9's currently unlike last year
DL- was down to 4x ATL in the beginnig of the year, now back to 5x like last year
AA- Lost 3X ORD (E145), 1x DFW (CR7), AA gone from MDT

I guess it's to be expected in this economy. I'm actually a little surprised it wasn't worse.
Hopefully once things start picking up again we'll get more new service.

According to their report nationwide traffic was down 12%, so they did fair better than most. I wonder how they did compared to the likes of ABE and AVP, since they are similar sized and close by.
US really had a big drop of almost 9000 passengers. Not great for the #1 carrier at the airport. I am flying on them at the end of the month to PBI and the fares were good and the plane is almost full. Hopefully things will rebound with the new services we now have.
I really hope to see FL expand service since MDT is doing well for them. I really think they could take away some of WN's central PA market if they gave it a try.

Ah, you mean those who drive 2 hours to BWI or PHL? I hope so, too!
1) They introduce more competition at lower fares.
2) They provide new service to a previously unserved market from MDT.

I really think you'll see that happen later this year. I've heard rumors that FL might add additional destinations from MDT. With a 91% load factor in February I think FL is very happy with their service out of MDT.

FL will offer a daily 717 flight between ATL and MDT. The interesting part is it's a summer season only flight between June 11 and Sept 8. With Central PA not being the big summer vacation destination, like the PWM area also mentioned in the PR, my guess is they are going to test the waters to see how the route does, any responses by DL with additional capacity, etc... and then decide if they would make it a year round flight. I believe FL has done this in the past. IIRC, PWM was originally a seasonal destination from BWI and became year round service.

WOW...wasn't expecting that one. I was told to expect new routes to Florida. Maybe that will come later in the year. I hope the service to ATL becomes permanent. I'm tired of riding CRJ's to ATL on DL.

April 2nd at 7 am, so it was added earlier this morning...

Amen brother!! And better fares!!!! I'm glad they are giving Harrisburg a chance. I hope central PA supports this new addition
CO to EWR is doing quite well also. My only concern there is the fact that there always seems to be a lot of delays. Understandable, but I hope this doesn;t hurt things like it did when US did LGA last year. My aunt has been using them lately coming up from Baton-Rouge thru EWR and says the service was good.

In my opinion this new flight will be just as succesful as the one to MCO. I think you'll see more service added by the end of the year.

I flew on the LGA service once and it was late. It was on a B1900...one of my favorite turboprops.

Great to see FL doing well enough in MDT to expand so quickly. What's more, MDT's seat capacity is now going to be higher in June '09 than it was last year, thanks to FL's ATL and CO's EWR service. Pretty amazing considering virtually all airports are reporting seat capacity declines. ABE, in comparison, is going to be down about 13%. Also, there are twice as many seats available @ ABE as there are @ MDT. I didn't realize there was such a disparity now. Used to be a time when ABE had a lot more seats and flights. AVP is flat on seat capacity, but is only 1/3 of the total daily seats @ MDT. Looks like 2009 might actually become a growth year for MDT if things continue on the current path, even though traffic was down 8% in Jan/Feb.

What is interesting is that it appears the airport is attempting to mask how much its Feb traffic was down. It was down 6.5% in Jan, and instead of reporting how much it was down in Feb, the Airport instead announced only the Jan/Feb combined totals of 8%. Sounds like about a 10% decline in Feb, which still isn't at all bad compared to a lot of similarly sized airports in the U.S.
