Sweetness! Is it a sports charter? I was there when the JAL one was here, and will plan on being there for the next one. I know we're supposed to get some rain on Thursday again, if so, it could be landing on the 12's.
The red zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers only, there is no stopping in the white zone...(Ai

Tally Ho I'm in! Hopefully this is true.
If it's landing on the 12s then maybe long term parking is the better spot? If it's the 31s then the SJSU parking lot?

Just found out its coming in as a charter from PDX. Looks like everything is landing on the 12's so far today. A SJC intern told me its parking near the cargo building and leaving about 9pm.

So, if it's the 12s, long term parking the best spot?

So, sunset at 7:38 and the flight arrives at 6:58, it'll be close lighting wise. Plus with the cloud cover and rain likely it'll be a mess of a shoot. Bring fast lenses
I think I'm going to shoot from long term parking. Hopefully it'll come in on 12R

Now, the next question is when is it going to depart? I don't see any departure information on flightaware yet. Maybe we'll get lucky and it won't leave till tomorrow AM and we can catch it leaving too.

Now hearing another 744 arriving on Sunday and leaving on Tuesday morning. I was told the 744 is departing tonight about 9pm. I wonder how much runway this bird is going to use.

Another 747 sounds nice!
This 747 shouldn't use too much runway...of course, it depends where she's heading.
The JAL 747 that visited SJC a couple years ago didn't use a whole lot either. After takeoff, 30R and the nearby taxiways were shut down so sweepers could remove the FOD generated by nos. 1 and 4 engines.

I could get used to seeing this often here...we had a 74SP making cameos from time to time in the past. Both runways are 11,000 feet, so take off distance isn't a problem.

I'm off work, so I can't check WorldFlight, but if I had to guess, maybe it's a military charter? How far away is Travis AFB from SJC? Of course, that would beg the question of why they didn't just fly into Travis, but still...

Yeah, I don't think it's a military charter, if it were I imagine it would have landed at Moffet and not SJC. Maybe it's some training flight for Delta crews?
25 Linglesou: Do they normally operate training flights into SJC?
26 Cvervais: No, they don't, this sort of thing is VERY unusual and pretty much unheard of. Same goes for PDX where it came from and ONT where it's going tonight.
27 Buzz100ca: From the bags the people were carrying down the stairs with them, I'm pretty sure they are dropping of local military personnel.
28 Dinker225: It boarded 6 busloads of military personnel at PDX. We thought it would go overseas from SJC. Dinker
29 SJC30L: I'm thinking it's doing a multi-stop pick-up/drop-off before going overseas
30 Cvervais: Well, then, that explains that. There's a report there's going to be another one coming through on Sunday. I hope it's true. But, I still wonder if it
31 Burnsie28: Seeing how Delta crews can't even touch the 747 until 5 years after the SOC's not a chance.
32 Aaron747: Weight limits and expedition of other taxiway traffic are the usual reasons for a denied request.
33 Mikesairways: Here are mine pics...we drove around to where it was parked for a couple a nice up-close shots. They were unloading quite a number of bags. http://rid
34 Flyibaby: It was confirmed last night when I was talking to a fueler. They say that they are getting a total of about 25 charters - only two of them are NWA -
35 Cvervais: Observation deck? The one in terminal C? I thought that was now behind the security positions and off limits unless you have a boarding pass.
36 Flyibaby: Yup - I got off from work at UPS and went over there thinking I could get a better shot and be out of the way on the ramp. Didn't work out for me tho
37 Cvervais: I see. So, still off limits to normal folks unless they have a boarding pass.
38 Flyibaby: Yeah...it is. But the area where it looks like MikeAirways took a couple shots right in front of the aircraft next to the cargo building is open..if y
39 Buzz100ca: My attempts in pretty poor weather. Let's hope we see more widebodies at SJC in more favorable conditions, for both the weather and for the passengers
40 SJC30L: Any confirmation yet on one showing up on Sunday? and if so, what time?
41 Cvervais: Buzz, was that from the parking garage?
42 N53614: It was really cool seeing a 747 at SJC yesterday! Here's my best shot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/richsnyder/3428500106/sizes/l/
43 Cvervais: Very nice. I wish some of mine had come out that sharp but, alas, I need more practice.
44 Buzz100ca: Yes, I took mine from the parking garage.
45 NWAESC: NWA does not have it's own employees in SJC anymore...
48 Mikesairways: Nice shot indeed! @Cvervais - nice to have met you out there!
49 N53614: Cvervais, 413x13, Mikesairways: thanks! It sure was awesome seeing that heavy at SJC. Any word on tomorrow's possible 747?
50 Flyibaby: Thats why I said "Contracted" ground staff.I think it is ATS. Yes, I heard it is supposed to land Sunday afternoon about 4pm and they said it is stay
51 Mikesairways: Well, its looking like my easter dinner will just have to be delayed. Should be back on the 30 s tomorrow, it will be cool to see it with downtown in
52 Cvervais: Lucky for me it's just a easter lunch so I should be able to make this. It's not on flightaware yet but, I'll be checking a lot tomorrow.
53 Nwaesc: Got it, and I think you're correct on the vendor, but I'm not 100%... Flt. 9995 is scheduled to arrive from MFR (!) at 1615 lcl... Should be A/C 6314
54 Bobnwa: Since everyone at old NW/DL is now a DL employee, if it as training flight which I doubt, then it would be DL employees being trained, wouldn't it?
56 SJC30L: On FlightAware now: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N...5/history/20090412/2210Z/KMFR/KSJC

60 Mikesairways: Here are my pics from yesterday, didn't get many and its with my tiny digital camera...its in the same album from Thursday...
61 Cvervais: Any news on it's departure yet? Nothing on flightaware yet.
62 NWAESC: It leaves tomorrow (Tuesday, the 14th) at 0400 lcl.
63 Mikesairways: I guess they can get a military exemption for the curfew?
64 Stevemchey: Here is my best shot: and shortly after, I caught this fun combination:
65 NWAESC: Beats me. I would suppose so??? I'm just going by what it's showing in WorldFlight...
67 Mikesairways: Nice shots to everyone! It was a great sight. Are there any other surprises coming in the near future? From the looks of it, the airport was more than
