My memory is that in the late 60's early 70's that the Military had a gearbox failure problem which caused a number of crashes (including separation of the main rotor). I remember a Helo Pilot telling me about them in the early 70's - and that was why they were overhauling the gearboxes so often; and that a modified gearbox was on its way.
Concerning this crash - did not the Helo Mfr ground all of this model due to a issue with the gearbox - and state that updated parts would be forthcoming; or am I thinking of a different crash.
