Air Pacific last week announced that it would postpone services planned for Hong Kong from Fiji for December this year, six months later than originally stated.
Originally planned for the 3rd of June, Nadi to Hong Kong will now take off on the 3rd of December, due to “the downturn in the world economy”.
“Unfortunately, the economic difficulties left us with no option but to make a prudent financial decision that will assist in the long term viability of the route,” said John Campbell, Air Pacific Managing Director.
Air Pacific will use the extra establish fares arrangements with Asian and European carriers for connecting flights for passengers flying onwards from Hong Kong.
Additionally, the extra time will allow Watson Seeto, the newly appointed Air Pacific Asia GM, set up the Hong Kong Air Pacific offices.

Quoting Hikarufree (Reply 1): I would guess that the current political situation in Fiji is playing a major role as well.
Hardly makes any difference. Very little if anything has actually changed.
What will the 763 do now it won't be going to HKG for 6 months ?
Well it could operate NAN/LAX/NAN say twice a week instead of sending a 744 with low load factor, without reducing frequency.
Spare time on a 737 due to cancellation of Mon NAN/OOL/NAN flights, so they could put it on NAN/MEL/NAN at least once a week, which is solely operated by 763 at present.
They also have a D check due for 763 this southern winter.
