The first 200 landed in Memphis last night from the paint shop. Looks pretty good, better from a distance. There are alor of minor flaws you can only see up close (runs, bubbles, orange peel). But for the first one I think it looks pretty good. I like the Delta livery better than I do either of the NWA ones. I know it has to be weighed today, not sure when it flys out. If you are driving down Winchester that a look if its out. I'll try to get pics soon.

It seems they are going for quantity over quality in GLH right now. I have seen several NW DC-9s with some glaring flaws in their new paint job. I'm almost scared to see what the Saab is going to look like.

Are the ops at GLH outsourced are part of Delta's ops? If outsourced, I sure would not be paying for the shoddy paint jobs coming from there. Unless these are planes that are expected to be retired soon anyway...

DL's only paint facility in-house is in Atlanta, talks of expanding stuff in minnesota or Detroit could add shops up there too.

GLH is outsourced, as is the work being done at VCV. From the planes I have seen, you can certainly tell that they are not putting a lot of attention into them. Some examples I have seen (and remember, I'm just one guy in a line station):

*Paint peeling above the above the cockpit (A320)

* Paint coming off on my hand while operating the aft cargo door (A320)

* "blurred" lines where white & blue paint meet.

* Orange peel

As for the A/C being retired soon, I don;t think that matters; passengers will still see them in the interim.

I was at ACA when the CRJs were transitioning over to Independence Air. The one time I went down to GLH was a disaster. The manager at the time said the employees live paycheck to paycheck. Many stop showing up once they get a paycheck and then live off that money until they run out. The manager couldn't afford to fire them because he could not find any other help. The plane we were picking up was over 8 hours late because paychecks had come out the day before and over half of their 3rd shift did not show up the previous night. The paint on the Independence Air CRJs was peeling within a couple weeks.

this one does have a bit of orange peel and some runs in places, but it looks good from a distance!

An already ugly plane just became uglier.

 checkmark

Its sad to say especially since the CRJ wears the DL colors the best out of all planes painted in it. It seems like the bigger the plane the worse it looks.

I'm just hoping that painting the Saabs don't cause more problems for the fleet. The DL colors look better than the old bowling shoe on the CRJ, but I think I'm gonna miss the NW silver...
