OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A small plane has crashed into a house outside Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and smoke can be seen rising from the crash site.

The crash happened Friday morning, and officials believe the aircraft is a Cessna 421, which is a twin-engine prop plane. Television images show the house with a gaping hole. Firefighters are working to extinguish the flames.

Broward County sheriff's spokeswoman Dani Moschella says a passerby saw the plane go down and alerted authorities.

It isn't immediately clear if anyone was inside the home, or how many people were aboard the plane.

I'm watching the news live and apparently there were 6 people on board. Firefighters are still trying to control the fire on the house and havn't been able to reach the airplane...

If it is confirmed there were casualties, may they all rest in peace!!

Watching the news as well. Last casualty count reported was 4.

The FAA is saying that there was atleast one person on board the airplane. (duh?)

Has anyone seen any further news on this item? Unfortunately it sounds like multiple casualties.

Also, what is the history with FXE and crashes? I remember not too long ago there was a DC-3 that crashed to the east of the field. How many deadly incidents have occurred there or in the vicinity?

I was driving south on I-95 just after the accident. Lots of smoke and about 4 news helicopters. I am glad no one was in the house.
