Hi all. I am presently arranging a trip from JNB to AKL via HKG on CX departing mid December and back mid January 2010. While searching for flights, I noticed that CX 749 HKG-JNB currently a B744 is changing to B773 as from 01 January 2010. While for me this change is great, is this part of CX phasing out their 744's are they just being utilized elsewhere?

WEF 3JUN09 onwards to 23OCT09, CX749 will be operated by a 777-300ER on every Wed, Fri & Sun.

CX is not phrasing out the 744. It is just deployed elsewhere. In fact, every CX 744 in operation now carry the new cabin. The last one without the new cabin had already gone for retrofit on the 12APR09.
