My brother just got a twitter update on his phone that said a US Air (mesa?) Dash-8 struck a ground power cart with its prop. Any info?


Doors open, right hand side, next stop is Springfield.

It was a Mesa Dash-8. The prop was destroyed and news reports 1 FA injured and no fatalities.

One of the scarier calls I've gotten on the radio.

There was a interruption on the local news channel here in Phoenix saying the prop shattered, they think everyone on board is alright, but it also said they struck a ground power unit. Haven't been able to find any other updates as of yet.

I was sitting about 100 yards from this when it happened. I walked over to see fuel pouring out of the power cart, smoke coming out of the engines, and metal parts falling all over the ramp. There was a prop blade sitting out near the Papa line and a large metal object embedded in the fuselage right between two windows. B22 was covered in debris and stuff had flown all the way out onto Charlie. Apparently there was a whole mess of debris in the cabin as well.

Luckily there were no other flights being worked at the time at 22 and 26 (the 737 sitting at 26 was undamaged) so we caught a bit of a break there. The aircraft was towed over to the YV hangar about an hour ago.

Reg was 449YV.
