The top 10 airports in Brazil (1st quarter 2009) and their rate of growing compared to 2008
1- Sao Paulo GRU ........ 5.026.672 (- 5.50%)
2- Rio de Janeiro GIG......3.084.312 (+ 3.8%)
3- Sao Paulo CGH..........3.043.969 (+ 2.3%)
4- Brasilia BSB...............2.081.452 (- 17.3%)
5- Salvador SSA.............1.726.062 (+ 4.3%)
6- Recife REC................1.264.774 (+ 4.1%)
7- Porto Alegre POA.......1.205.739 (+ 3.2%)
8- Confins CNF...............1.194.350 (+ 0.5%)
9- Curitiba CWB................975.124 (- 3.9%)
10- Fortaleza FOR.............959.362 (+ 3.6%)
Numbers show a huge drop in BSB (not sure but seems that they now change criteria, otherwise this huge drop is not real), GRU drop is mostly because of international traffic (down 11.8%), Northeast major airports (SSA, REC, FOR) grow not so much but keep growing, thanks to domestic traffic, and GIG grow just because of the international traffic (among the big ones, only GIG, REC and CNF international operations present an increase over 2008 levels)
SDU is now 11th but probably will overcome FOR and CWB to become Brazilian 9th largest airport with around 35 daily flights moved from GIG. GIG probably will return to it's 3rd position and during the year, BSB could become again the 3rd largest airport.
