Simple question: does anyone know the total number of active commercial (pax and cargo) aircraft flying by continent? Where can I find that information?Tried speednews.com without success.

Flight International publishes an annual survey of the World's airlines and I think produces exactly what you're looking for. I'd suggest searching their website.

I ever marvel that people can get to a website like this one but can not execute a simple search. I found the described survey in under five minutes. Go to the site. Search on the site using the string 'annual survey'. Voila.

Best Regards.

Adding to this topic, is there any world database of all active aircraft (just active, not history) we can purchase in xls format? Airfleets.net provides this data (sells it) but in pdf format. Airframes.org doesn't provide it. Any help appreciated. All we are looking for is for a table for all active aircraft with the following fields:

Country
Airline
Aircraft Type
Registration
Man Year
Mode-s HEX Code
