HP is now US but US has failed to resume the former HP service between MSY and LAS/PHX....YX seems to be just hanging on and chances are they wouldn't be flying to the city now anyway...TA, not sure what their deal is, I've given up on trying to figure them out...and F9, well, that's been well documented.

DL has cut a lot of domestic 767 service since Katrina, not just at MSY. TPA, JAX, MCO, FLL all see much fewer (if any) 767s compared to a few years ago. It's likely MSY wouldn't be seeing any DL 767s today even if Katrina never happened.

Very true. The days of DL servving the big Southern markets from ATL with wide bodies is pretty much over and done with, with very few exceptions.
The 767-200 was the primary type which flew to MSY....the last schedule before Katrina, IIRC, featured 1x 763 and 2 or 3x 762...so once those were gone, I was expecting a combination of MD88/757 to take over those flights. Now that the 757's have been replacing many former 767-300 domestic flights, some former 757 flights have been replaced by MD-88's.
TA Honduras-MSY has operated as charter service after Katrina era.
There had been some talks trying to resume that service, but they have not materialized the project.
For the meantime, CO MSY-IAH and then CO IAH-[SAP/TGU] has probably captured the traffic-shared that belonged to TA in the past.

So AC isn't even considering a return to MSY at all?? I'm quite surprised, given their new Embraer aircraft (which would seem to be the right size for a daily service to/from YYZ or perhaps even YUL) and slew of transborder expansion as of late.
Frontier and Midwest are struggling just to survive and have both cut a number of destinations in recent years, don't expect them to come back anytime soon, if ever. The US (former HP) operation at PHX has also shrunk as a number of destinations have been dropped or downgraded lately. TACA has continued to grow, and perhaps the smaller E-190 could work. Let's hope that this swine flu crisis doesn't derail the new Aeromexico Connect service to MEX.
I'd say the best hope for MSY right now would be growth by the established carriers there. United has added a few new routes from SFO, perhaps a return of SFO-MSY is plausible. Delta is a big player at MSY, perhaps service to NW hubs could be increased. I wouldn't hold my breath for WN as they are focused on their new stations now. Perhaps Air Tran could start BWI or MCO, or B6 could start AUS, MCO, or FLL so as to link New Orleans to its growing Western and Latin Americans networks.
Flying in the middle seat of coach is much better than not flying at all!
