Air Arabia Maroc Launches Operations

Last year, Air Arabia had announced plans to launch a joint venture with Yeti Airlines in Nepal and Regional Air Lines in Casablanca for European operations. The Nepal venture took off for a few months before the operation was shut down.
But Air Arabia has kept their promise. Air Arabia Maroc is launching operations from CMN to:
London-Stanstead
Brussels
Lyon
Marseilles
Milan-Bergamo

Here is the website:
http://www.airarabia.com/AirArabiaMaroc.html

Operations launching with the first of 7 A320s.

I am sure that this will boost tourism and VFR links between Morocco and Europe. Although there are no SHJ-CMN services, I look forward to the day when I can travel from the UAE to London or Paris on an LCC.

Air Arabia should start SHJ-TUN and then Air Arabia Maroc should continue TUN-CMN or something; that way it will become possible!Cant wait to see pictures of that in the A.net database.

Does anyone know the story behind this aircraft? It's a new-build that was painted in Air Berlin colors and then repainted in Air Arabia Maroc colors. Is it a lease or did Air Berlin decide not to take up the aircraft?

Personally I can't wait for a TR!

It would be impractical for Air Arabia to do SHJ-TUN and Air Arabia Maroc do TUN-CMN then distribute passengers yet again to points in Europe! What Air Arabia should do is purchase A319s, or 737s or even A330s to operate SHJ-CMN. Yes, A330s sound like a really good idea.
Air Arabia can operate A320s from cities in India and the Gulf and so on to SHJ, then put pax on 4-5 daily A330s to CMN, and have Air Arabia Maroc distribute them to STN, CDG, BRU etc. on A320s.

Rather odd combination of airports, such as BGY and CRL yet CDG and LYS.

Note long 45-minute turnaround.

Timings based on July:

CMN-CRL-CMN:

1, 3, 5, 7 = 1200-1615; 1700-1925

CMN-STN-CMN:

1, 3, 5, 7 = 0315-0635; 0720-1050

CMN-LYS-CMN:

2, 4, 6 = 1835-2225; 2310-0105*

CMN-MRS-CMN:

1, 3, 5, 7 = 2020-2355
1, 2, 4, 6 = 0040-0215

CMN-BGY-CMN:

2, 4, 6 = 1010-1415; 1500-1720

CMN-CDG-CMN:

Daily = 1155-1550; 1640-1840

Isn't a lowest fare of 106pounds one-way rather expensive?

Will many prospective customers choose to book with someone else due to the ungodly hours or don't people mind in general if the price is right?

You can. Take Air Arabia to Athens and then connect with a European LCC to whatever point you want.

You used to also be able to do it via Istanbul connecting onto Easyjet - I think you still can.

Let's hope this operation does better than Fly Yeti did. Though, in all honesty, I imagine Morocco is a much more attractive, stable, and developed market than Nepal. I bet this airline will do very well.

Yepp, that wouldn't seem too unlikely, considering that AT have some kind of monopoly there. Well at least they used to.

What happened to FR's plans on flying to Morocco. Do they still fly there?

Sounds a bit of backtracking considering that is it not really direct and you probably have to transit for a few hours between. Though, considering the network and demand, it could work.. but for the moment, it will just have to wait.

Good to see Air Arabia Maroc getting started. Hopefully they can grow from the initial routes and establish a good network from Casablanca.

It's actually quiet cheap considering all other options for LON-CMN. U2's flights with a stop in Madrid are around £170 Rtrn whilst Air Arabia's are around the same price direct from STN Rtrn. An example would be : Air Arabia STN-CMN 20/7/2009 Rtrn CMN-STN 27/8/2009 costs £173. A Flight on AT on similar dates from LHR costs £300+ .

North African flights from Europe seem to be expensive in general. whether it be to CMN, TUN or ALG

Life is a Journey, One Which I hope will include alot of Flights !! =]

This is a most interesting development. Shortly after Jet4You, another private, rather LoCo carrier takes up operations between Morocco and the EU. It's a consequence of the Euromed Air Transport Agreement between Morocco and the EU signed in December 2006. Air Arabia Marco must be majority-owned by Moroccan investors as the deal of the Agreement is that any Moroccan/EU owned airline may fly between points in Morocco and the EU. Nice to see that the market is developing.
So far, Morocco is the only mediterranean country to have signed such an Agreement, but supposedly Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan and others might follow soon.

Regional Airlines will disappear and will be replaced by Royal Air Maroc Inter having just ordered ATRs.

I knew about the new RAM Inter but i didn´t know anything about Regional airlines, I think they are a very nice airline and with a good infrastructure and well managed.

I think Air Arabia Maroc will be a nice add in the market for Marocco, maybe one of the fastest growning markets in the north Africa.

Well there is a sizable population linked to Morocco in Belgium, in the waters of 200,000 I believe. So the market is definitely here. A reason why we see AT's B744 in the Summer and have so many Moroccan airports directly served from BRU.

And please I'd like to comment that CRL isn't BRU. It remains a convenient alternative for many, including myself.

Can I suggest the people at Air Arabia to look at the possibility of a week-end CRL-BEY direct return service operated either as a CMN-CRL-BEY vv or SHJ-BEY-CRL vv (the rather loose bilaterals on either of these ends should provide legal cover for the route) as there is definitely a market for direct BE-LB flights.

I want the European Union flag on airliners.net!
