I know for a fact that US was building up a focus city during 2004 to service routes from the Northeast and many destinations from the Carribean. Can anyone find a list of the routes served and types of aircraft?
I know they flew FLL-BDL/LGA/BOS daily and PVD on Saturdays.
Yes, it was a far-fetched idea from the start. I remember it was announced at the same time PIT was being initially pulled down. Regular people in PIT were not happy at all to not only see US pull down the hub, but put the capacity in FLL and then have the nerve to call it a "hub." Even if US never officially called it that, enough US people in PIT referred to it as such and ticked off a lot of potential customers, some of whom have not forgiven US to this day. While closing PIT has had its merits within the US system, FLL was a colossal mistake. I for one, knew it would not last long. Despite a decent name recognition factor there, US never built the critical mass needed to make FLL work long-term. Their markets were poorly researched and the services were rushed, never giving them the time to develop the markets and nurture them to sustainability. Just after this time, US' Latin expert, Ben Baldanza, went to NK, where he remains, IINM.
